Re: lg 50pg4000 loses sound remote stops working and switches off
The remote board wires go to a different section of the main board that the audio. If it goes out after warmed up, I would try freeze spray on the voltage regulators and audio chip. When the audio drops out what is the voltage to the chip? The preamp IC has a lower voltage than the audio amp. Check both while your there. Do you loose the power to the IR remote rcvr facing the front of the set? I am responding from my phone so I am unable to look at a schematic.

A fast and easy test is to unplug the IR from the main board and use the buttons on the set for on/off and volume up/down. If the board is bad it can cause these problems

once I lose sound the remote works tv led flashes to show this but will not do the functions pressed

Which indicates it's receiving the instructions but discarding or ignoring them - the main board is at fault. On some of these main boards, there's a SUB MICOM for processing IR, standby and LED functions. The SUB MICOM connects to the main processor by I2C interface, typically. If there's a problem with the main processor or the interface, this effect might be observed.
As for repair? Main board swap is probably the only thing that can be done.

Well as the fault is caused by it running for a long time, and hence heat likely, then a hairdryer will probably make the problem worse. If you can't do a factory reset then there is no option but a board swap.
