I have a Vizio M470SL, i have sound, but the picture is moving in a whitish blur. When one of the two ribbons are removed the corresponding side turns black the other stays the moving white, and visa versa. I'm not an expert when it comes to TV's. But does anyone have any idea what I should look at?

Got pics? You might want to post pics of the circuit board layout and what you're seeing onscreen.Last edited by capkid; 08-07-2013, 11:50 PM. -
Re: Vizio M470SL, has sound, no white moving picture.
Here are the pictures you've asked for. This is with my DirecTV hooked up via HDMI. First picture is the TV just turned on. The second pic is with the menu popped up. The white screen moves side to side but stays white for the most part.
Thanks!

Did you buy this TV used, and did you ever see it working correctly? The first two pics of the panel don't look good.Comment

Some of these panel issues are hard to diagnose, but I'd say you have a bad t-con (LED driver board), which is the board in the last pic you posted, or you have a bad panel. The t-con should be fairly cheap to replace.

Re: Vizio M470SL, has sound, no white moving picture.
It's 50 on shopjimmy and 40 on amazon, so not to expensive. The T-con was my best guess.Comment

Re: Vizio M470SL, has sound, no white moving picture.
Is there any caps or resistors etc I should check just to be sure it's not something other then the whole t-con?Comment

Re: Vizio M470SL, has sound, no white moving picture.
I was just thinking that myself. There aren't any BGA chips on that board, so you might be able to find and replace one or bad components or possibly rule out the t-con altogether. I'd probably start by doing some voltage checks on the t-con at the connectors.Last edited by capkid; 08-08-2013, 03:48 PM.Comment

With the power on or off? I'm not to intelligent with the inner workings of electronics, nor risk of shock for that matter. lolComment

Re: Vizio M470SL, has sound, no white moving picture.
Check voltages with the TV turned on. Put your multimeter's negative lead on a metal part of the TV's chassis (panel is fine) and touch your positive lead to each of the points on the t-con at the connectors. Record the readings. Just be careful to not touch the power supply while you're doing these tests and you should be fine.
Edit: I don't know the exact specs of those connector voltages.Last edited by capkid; 08-08-2013, 04:13 PM.Comment

Re: Vizio M470SL, has sound, no white moving picture.
Ok so I come up with 65 across 1-5(vin)
0 across 6-10 (grounds)
0 on 11 (stauts??)
8 on 12 (on/off)
0 on 13(NC)
0 on 14(pwm)
Any of that look like it could be an issue?Comment

Any ideas anyone? I'm at a standstill with this t-con board. I can not find the voltages they should be anywhere.Comment

Re: Vizio M470SL, has sound, no white moving picture.
That board you tested is not the T-CON board, it is the LED Backlights driver board.
This TV may have one of those LCD panel with built-in non- replaceable T-CON board (or the T-CON is on the main board). You need to look under the metal shield.Never stop learning

Re: Vizio M470SL, has sound, no white moving picture.
I am not sure if the T-con is on the Main board for sure or not at this point, but it sure does look like it. One way to find out is to look for the spec sheet of the LCD panel. You need to look for the sticker on the panel some where.Never stop learning

Re: Vizio M470SL, has sound, no white moving picture.
I did not see any sticker on the panel itself. I'll double look later tonight and repost, but I'm sure there is not a sticker with specs on it tho. Unless it maybe under one of the boards??Comment

The stickers are on the top right corner, left one is the bar code, the right one is the model sticker which I cannot clearly read the numbers. It is made by LG LCXXXXXNever stop learning

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by brad2157I picked up a Vizio E70-E3 for free that shows Vizio logo and then goes to a black screen. Original owner said he started having wifi issues and then he tried to reset the TV and that's when it wouldn't boot up any longer after his reset attempt. I picked up a replacement main board from eBay that matches the same model # board as the original from the TV.
Original main board - Shows Vizio logo when TV powers on, then goes to black screen. Doesn't boot up. No screen issues with any lines on start up Vizio logo.
Replacement main board - Boots up fine, but starting... -
by ggil44Hi I inherited a Vizio M65-E0 that isn't working. It must have been dropped on the corner because I found that the infrared circuit had a capacitor with one end broken off of the board and some green corrosion around the plug to the main board. I re-soldered the capacitor and cleaned the corrosion well and tried turning the M65-E0 on and I was successful. My problem is that while the back lights come on and appear to perform local dimming there is no picture or sound. It kind of looks like you are looking at the TV through a very dense fog, where changing the input on the remote will change bright...
