So I bought a LG 42LH30 off a lady that only the right half of the screen was working. So I took it apart no bad caps and I disconnected the left side ribbon cable that goes from the lcd panel to the t con board ad I re seated it and it worked fine no problem. Turned it off and then back on worked like a charm. So I let it sit for a day and come back the next day and just plug it up to power no video and it gets the whole screen snow like usual but you can see a line down the center dividing the two sides of the screen and then only a couple of times the screen on the left side at the top would flash a couple horizontal lines but only a couple times. So I hit the top of the tv and then it works like a charm. Is this a bad connection at the circuit board on the lcd panel. The tv is from late 09.

Re: LG 42LH30 half screen kinda not working
You may need a new T-CON. You might also want to try cleaning your connectors and cable ends with electronic contact cleaner.Last edited by capkid; 08-02-2013, 07:47 PM. -
Re: LG 42LH30 half screen kinda not working
I didn't think to use electronic contact cleaner. I will try that on the ribbon cable and see. I had a similar issue with a 26 in samsung before where the picture was not on but the backlight was on and I took the ribbon cable out and reseated it and it came right in. But if you let it sit for a day or two it would do it again and sometimes if you hit the top it will work fine. Come to find out it supposedly was a problem with the lcd panel cause I swapped the tcon on it and the lcds cable and it didn't solve it. But I will try the cleaner and let ya know what happensComment

by ChrissygizmoHello everyone, I’ve just been given a Samsung UE55JU6800K smart tv as it had white spots on the screen due to the led lenses falling off. After refitting them & putting the tv back together I thought it was a nice easy fix for a free bedroom tv , then I tried it before screwing the back into place. I realised that the right side of the screen was darker than the other side, I removed the screen again as I thought the backlights had failed but they are fine.
I put the screen back in place & turned it back on . The screen seemed to be ok again but different screens on the same... -
by Ryan.manHello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!
My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.
This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen... -
by valvashonThe 55" LG has been in the basement for a few months without being used. Turned it on yesterday, set came on as it should and showed a complete screen for about 5 seconds (was on a broadcast channel but no antenna was connected), then the screen went mostly dark with about 1/3 of the screen on the right lighting up with brighter lines in that lit part (sorry, no pictures of that). Power LED was cycling too, preventing the TV from fully powering up.
Pulled the back off, all boards looked OK. Pulled the LED connector, turned the set on to see if it would power up but I don't belive it... -
by Raulnngood night! I have this screen that looks half black and half white. the tcon gives a low vgh value (5-6v). the rest seem fine. I first removed the flex from one half of the panel and then the other. Removing the left, vgh increases it to 25-26v. I think the problem is in that area, but there are not many elements on the integrated controller board. there are no shorted capacitors. could they be a cof? Some help?
By the way, now the entire screen is black. Maybe some flex was not connected correctly... I have exchanged the flex and there are no variations, I don't think they are the... -
by scubacamperI found another post on this site the other day which has been very helpful in troubleshooting this issue I am having with my tv. The left half of the screen is dark, and the other half is VERY slow to generate it's image - and it only generates part of its image at that.
Based on this yt video, I have narrowed it down to an issue (short?) on the left side of the display, somewhere in the system of ribbon cables.
when I remove the bezel and the rear cover, I can get the image to display correctly by manipulating the ribbon cables on the left side which connects the left lower display... - Loading...
