    Re: 14 blinks TC-P50ST30

Northwestdad - Sorry for your issues as I'm having the same problem you are,, exactly.. Just wondering if you had any luck following up with moduslink.com as I'm having a hard time finding the SC board as well.. WIll probably give it a shot with repair kit they are selling if all else fails

tw2005 - see all of your feedback and everything has worked for but I can't seem to get any reading on multimeter from pins to ground to check the SD and SU boards.. Does that prove there isn't a short?

With the buffer boards if you have a meter measure these points.

SU board at connector SU41 , each of these pins 2,6,8 with respect to the gnd plate on buffer.

likewise, pin 6,2,1 SD42 to gnd plate on buffer.

disconnect the little white ribbon in between, disconnectd from the sc board also.

should be ok but to be sure.

Well, I can say that ModusLink is consistantly not the best at communication. It took over a month for my board to be shipped back the first time, and was only after I inquired about the status did they inform me they had to wait for a componant to arrive. The order status was listed as "waiting for shipment" leading me to believe that it was ready to ship back for a couple weeks but never arrived. Eventually I contacted them and that's when I was informed about the wait for an additional part. When the repaired board did arrive and subsecquently failed, it was necessary to navigate their website to find the instructions for returning something under warranty. Within 48 hours I had the return authorization, but no instructions or packslip notes so I just shipped it back on my own dime, which was around $12.50 US. I sent it back over a week ago and there is no change to the status...still says "approved for return". Right now I'm in it for around $25.00 in shipping + the original cost of the repair, so I'm getting closer to the price of just purchasing a new/used functional board.

sorry to hear of the troubles. probably gives us a more balanced view on what's going on. Of the few posts i've seen by their report Modus have been alright, but not for you it seems.

Do you get to talk to a real person or is it all online contact?

          Re: 14 blinks TC-P50ST30

So I found a replacement SC board for my TV ( TC-P50ST30 ) and I ordered correctly but they didn't send me the right board.. Instead of sending TNPA5351AQ they send TNPA5351AM.. I'll follow up as I know more as I have an email out to the company now.. Link below where I purchased..

          https://www.emtcompany.com/panasonic...101337111.html

@TW2005 - Just a follow up, I couldn't find an shorts between ground and pins at SD42 and SU41.. Is that a good enough test to ensure my SD and SU boards are good?

            Re: 14 blinks TC-P50ST30

The link did not work. No shorts at those is a good start. could also run a continuity test between the gnd plates and the outputs of the buffer ICs or measure resistance.

I trust we're talking about pins for, VF5V, VSCN-F, VFO only.

TNPA5351AM would work but it's not matched to your panel.

The differences on the board are subtle, c643,c644 are not populated on yours but are on the AM. Could be others but that's a quick example of the difference.

              ***UPDATE***

The board was re-repaired and arrived yesterday. I hooked everything up and so far so good. Got a few hours of viewing in without any hiccups.

Huge thank you to TW2005. Your information was spot on.

Anyone who has the same issue as me, I highly recommend you follow the testing and isolation steps listed above to confirm a faulty SC board.

              Regarding ModusLink:

They were one of the only location I found that was offering a repair of the board rather then buying a new/used one at twice the price. They also had a big special going on at the time which made the repair choice a nobrainer. Overall their customer service team is responsive to inquiry as my questions where answered usually within 24 hours (excluding holidays/weekends). However, it is up to the customer to ask the questions rather then assuming.

              Specific examples to consider:

              1. The original repair took nearly a month to complete when the predicted timeframe was 3-5 business days. The issue was due to a part being on backorder. My order status when viewed online merely stated "awaiting shipment". Easy to assume that meant the board was completed and ready to be shipped. After three weeks of being in that status I finally emailed and asked what the deal was. It was only then that they responded informing me of the delay. When the repair was completed the status was changed and a tracking number provided.

              2. After the original repair failed right away, I went to their website to learn how to request a return under warranty. It took some initial searching but eventually there was a link to request a return. The request was approved the next day, but no instructions on what to do or any type of packslip, RMA form to include, or a return shipping label. I ended up just shipping it back on my own coin. However, when I did ask about it they offered to reimburse my shipping cost if I could forward a copy of the receipt. They said most customers ask specifically for a return shipping label. Seems to me it should automatically generate when approving a return.

              3. The board was returned on May 12 and there was no confirmation about it being received or what the official finding was (bad repair or otherwise). I emailed them on May 24 asking about the status and received a response back on the 26th saying it had been repaired again and shipped back on the 20th. No tracking number was provided so I had to ask for it separately. They provided the tracking number yesterday, and the board arrived that afternoon.

So overall my experience with them was good and they offered a good service at a good price. Communication was quick, but I had to initiate most of it. In short I would definitely recommend them but don't merely assume they are as automated as other organizations (like ShopJimmy for instance).

Thanks for the feedback. I was fairly confident the diagnosis was correct and the issue most likely was a dud repair.

Even better now that it's been proven though and your TV is now good.

Good info on your part, keeps the forum balanced and sure to help many.

                  ***Additional Update****

TV is still working solidly. It is a noisy unit (buzzing), but I believe that's normal for this set. Overall very satisfied. All said and done, my out-of-pocket expenses where $100 for the non-working tv, $48 for the board repair, and around $20.00 total for shipping various boards ordered and returned. I bought the TV on March 5 and it was officially resurrected on May 27. Loads of frustration (and learning) during those 2 1/2 months, but in the end I'm quite happy.

I'm now feeling ready to invest in some 3D glasses and would like to know which one's to purchase. The tv has a 2D - 3D converter for non-3D content, but have no idea how well it works. Figured it would be fun watching World Cup matches in 3D. I didn't see the type of glasses required listed in the manual, and going online reveals hundreds of different options. I don't mind spending $50 or so just to try something out to see if it is worth watching an entire program, but am not going to drop several hundred on high end equipment. I anticipate I may rarely use the 3D function anyways.

Thanks TW2005 from me as well.. Got a replacement SC board for 110 bucks and the kids couldn't be happier.. Hopefully this will get me thru the next 5 years...

northwestdad - I installed lock washers ( 3mm ) on all of the screws for the SC, SS, SD, SU and pretty much any other screw that didn't have a lock washer and that got rid of the humming / buzzing sound.. Pretty easy to find at any hardware store for a few bucks.. I can't imagine that it's good for the board and may be one of the factors that's causing the board to fail?? You never know though

scpat97....really? Lock washers on all the mounting screws holding the boards in place helped? I figured it was just the components or something. If the volume is up I don't even notice the buzzing, but I'll keep that in mind in case it really becomes too annoying.

What do the lock washers accomplish that properly tightened screw doesn't? that would be a super cheap fix.

If you have to turn the TV up to mask the buzzing, probably not a bad idea to make sure all the screws and boards are secure.

Some if not most are earthing points and there have been a few posts now regarding arcing and blowing boards due to bad screws and earth.

It's been said that the wrong screws were used in assembly.

I've worked on a few Panasonic plasmas, never been noisy, the only time one made a racket was my main TV when i did not have all the screws in and tight during fault finding.

Otherwise you'd have to have your ear right next to the set to hear the buzz of the sustain boards.

I took the back cover off last night and checked every screw I could easily access with a screwdriver and sure enough there were several that I was able to get another 1/4 turn in. I had originally used an electric drill with the clutch set really low as to not damage the boards, but they still should have been tighter then they were. With the back cover off the buzz was still very noticeable, but not as much so, and only when there was a blank screen. Once images started moving around it quieted considerably. With the cover back on it made a world of difference.

                          Once again....YOU GUYS ROCK!

electric screwdriver on an electronic board Imagine if the tip spun and jumped out of the screw and onto the board, still spinning. Chance of breaking the copper tracks or taking out a surface component.

                            Anyway, the TV works.

TV continues to be great. The buzzing is still present when a solid color image appears like a white background or the red when Netflix starts up. Once the video gets going it quiets down.

I took a chance and purchased some 3D glasses for this and was pretty impressed with the 2D-3D conversion...particularly when watching a soccer match with my 14 year old. I don't have a 3D player yet but hopefully it will be even better.

They were responsive via email so I'd inquire on the actual status. I don't remember if I was able to find a phone number or not, but I think they are in Indiana and so a 3-hour time difference between West Coast (or maybe they are in Central Time Zone).

I realize this is an old thread, so I may not get a response, but I'll try anyway.

Let me start by saying I have zero electronics repair experience, so I apologize if I ask a silly question.

I have a TC-P42ST30 that is just under 3 years old. Earlier today, an AT&T u-Verse tech was out trying to troubleshoot quality of service problems we've been having for a couple of weeks. He went outside to the AT&T network box, on the back of my house, to check for a good ground. Came inside and said it was okay and then left shortly thereafter. About 15 minutes after this, my son told me the TV had shut off and wouldn't come back on. The red power LED was still on and I had to unplug the power cord to get it off. After plugging it back in, I get the 14 blinks.

My question is this: Is it possible that something the AT&T tech did caused the problem, or is it probably just a wild coincidence?

                                      Thank you!

Wild coincidence I would say. Being Non -US, what does an AT&T network box do? Is this just a phone/internet connection?

shorted SN board would be my first guess, fairly prevalent with these.

If it is I would suggest sending it to ModuslinkPTS since you have no knowledge

                                        http://www.moduslinkptstvboards.com/TXNSN1PKUU/

I would ask them also since TNPA5349AB and TNPA5349AD are equivalents then why are they quoting $30 more for the AB? I would expect the failure points to be the same and the parts are most likely too.

From what I can work out, the only difference between the 2 boards is the style of connector at SN20. I realise you may not understand but that's the connector that the white ribbon connects to from the A board.

One is $104, the other $75

If it is I would suggest sending it to ModuslinkPTS since you have no knowledge

                                          http://www.moduslinkptstvboards.com/TXNSN1PKUU/

I would ask them also since TNPA5349AB and TNPA5349AD are equivalents then why are they quoting $30 more for the AB? I would expect the failure points to be the same and the parts are most likely too.

From what I can work out, the only difference between the 2 boards is the style of connector at SN20. I realise you may not understand but that's the connector that the white ribbon connects to from the A board.

One is $104, the other $75
well I tried with Modus on their pricing.

here's their response and I must point out, no salutation or Company title block or name at the end. very, very weird and unprofessional for a company
                                          with any quality assurance,

"We appreciate your feedback very much. We set our pricing based on average parts and labor cost per board, so in the cases below we have found that we average more labor/parts for the higher priced boards and have found that using this model our pricing will vary some even on exact substitution boards. ......................................"
