    Mosfet replacement

I hope I didn't post this in the wrong spot

Does anyone know of a replacement for a STTH20P03S Mosfet?
Out of a Samsung Z board. I can't find a data sheet on it

    200V, 3A device, I believe.

I think the important thing to note here is it's in fact a fast recovery diode, common cathode.

Pins 1-3 will test short in cct, A-K-A , centre pin is cathode.
Datasheet I found does not match the number exactly

When you say in cct, do you mean with the component installed in circuit? Or do you mean in a circuit continuity test with the component out of circuit? Sorry I'm not sure what your abbreviation means... I know this is an old thread but I have this same exact rectifier and pins A1 and A2 measure continuity with no resistance between them (shorted) with the component out of circuit. I am understanding this as a failure? Thanks to all in advance.

                two anodes , 1 cathode. A1, A2 are 2 anodes.

anode to anode = short it's the same reference point = normal

Anode to cathode in diode will be 0 one way and whatever voltage drop the other. Could be 0.3- 0.5 as long as it's not shorted both directions it's ok.

In or out will be the same. Now if the whole this was shorted then you'd remove and retest because other things connected could be shorted but the diode is ok.

                  Re: Mosfet replacement

in laymans terms, there is a diode between the outer pins and the centre pin, but both outer pins are tied together, so it is shorted out of circuit. this is how it should read, there fore, it is good. if you have continuity between either of the outer pins and the centre pin, then it is bad.

tw beat me to it, :P

                    Re: Mosfet replacement

Thank you all! I have continuity between A1 and A2, and .378 between A1 and K with + to anode and - to cathode, nothing with leads reversed. Same result from A2 to K. From your teachings this means it's good... I appreciate the help. I didn't realize the anodes were tied together, I thought they were separated by their respective diodes... on to further testing!

Unknown transformer : how to find a good replacement part ?
                      by the_rem
                      Hello guys,

I would like a quite old but still good 800 W ATX PSU to be repaired. The problem was an extremely heavy coil whine coming from the small secondary transfomer on the PCB.

I desoldered it hoping the references on the upper side would allow me to find a adequate replacement part. Sadly the written references drove me nowhere but to the manufacturer (I-MAG). I sent them a message like a bottle in the see asking them to send me a datasheet of the transformer. And... They responded ! I received a kind of datasheet (see attachment) but my competencies do not allow...

                      by jm942
                      Hi,
My laptop went dead and after checking ,the main 19 volt power rail was shorted. After some checks i could identify that a high side vcore mosfet was shorted.
I replaced the mosfet and now the white powerled is present , fans start spinning but capslock shows the famous 5 long and 3 short code.

I checked the vcore voltages after replacement and i get for all 1.01 V so means for me that the driver is still working of the replaced shorted mosfet. On the Nvidia i measure around 0.8 V after the mosfets.
I did voltage injection on the cpu with 0.7V and i have a current...

Recently I purchased a Tektronix TDS1012, a 20 years old product for cheap and I thought it could be a nice opportunity for playing (i.e. recapping) and learn something in the process.
The power supply board is exactly the same from this post so I'll just steal it for now.

I'm trying to find replacements for all those Lelon electrolytic caps, but then quickly...

How do you test MOSFET in laptops ?
                      by Jane
I tried to use this method:

                      Testing an N-channel MOSFET:

Step 1: Discharge the Gate (turn off the MOSFET)
Place the black probe (COM) on the Source (S) and the red probe on the Drain (D). The multimeter should show no continuity (high resistance or "OL" – open line).
Then, touch the black probe to the Source (S) and the red probe to the Gate (G). This discharges any stored charge in the Gate, turning the MOSFET off.

Step 2: Charge the Gate (turn on the MOSFET)
Now, place the red probe on the Gate (G) and the black probe on the
                      ...
