Hi guys, hope you can help.
I have a Sony KDL-40EX403 which, when it came to me, would just switch from red standby light to green on light (solid). Since the screen didn't light up but the LEDs indicated it was on, I naturally assumed the problem was with the inverter which I replaced - twice before deciding the chances of receiving two faulty inverters from the same seller were slim enough to try something else.
I replaced the main board (1-881-636-23) with one that I thought would be compatible from a KDL-40EX503. But when I put that board in I just got 5 blinking red lights recurring. The seller told me that this was down to firmware incompatibility and I needed a 1-881-636-23 with a BAL number A-1769-676-A specific to a KDL-40EX403 not a 503.
Now, I've never actually dealt with a Sony TV - tend to stick to Toshiba, LG and Hitachi - so could only take him at his word. So I did what he said and ordered a 1-881-636-23 A-1769-676-A. When it arrived, the board had 'KDL-32EX403' written on the heatsink which I asked him about and he insisted it was still compatible.
So I put it in and got a flashing green and amber light - both flashing in perfect unison.
Disconnecting the T-con gave me the 5 blinking red lights I had observed with the previous board. I tried a factory reset and also tried a firmware update by USB. Same result, nothing changed.
I have not idea if what the seller is telling me is truth or not and I feel like smashing the telly frankly. Any ideas you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.
I can solder of course, but tend to avoid it if I can because my eyesight isn't the best. In this case I don't know if the boards I have are faulty or not and don't want to void the warranty on them by pulling them apart unless I know for certain that is required.
