    Vizio 42" Question (VP422HDTV10A)

I mentioned what great help Tom66 had given me on my plasma to a friend and he brought up his plasma woes, so I thought I might run it by the forum.

It's a Vizio, part # VP422HDTV10A I believe, and it has these 2 vertical orange stripes shown in the picture.

    What do you think?

I've said in the other thread I think it is a control/CTRL board fault.

Oh, ok. I thought you wanted me to start a new thread on this to get community views and input.

You mentioned previously that it may also be a bad plasma panel. Is it much more likely that it is a defective CTRL board, so it would be worth it to put focus on this set?

Or is it a distinct possibility that the plasma panel may in fact be bad, creating, from what I have tried to learn from you in plasma school today, a severely non-hydrodynamic boat anchor?

        Re: Vizio 42" Question (VP422HDTV10A)

There is the chance it is a bad panel, making the TV unrepairable.

However, this fault is commonly seen, and more often, when the control board is actually faulty.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
            by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

            Assuming...

            Vizio M65-C1
            by mrtek
            Hi.

picked up another TV. This time is a Vizio M65-C1. TV does not turn on. I had repaired another 60 inch vizio , Bad main board.
When power button is pressed, the Power led indicator on the bottom right, turns for a few seconds and then it fades away. No backlight or Vizio logo on screen. Removed back cover and repeated test.
This is the TV This TV is a little different from the Samsung I have worked on. Power supply is on the Left side, Main Bd is on the right side, T-CON , not in the picture is on the bottom. I am assuming that the boards in the middle are the LED...

            Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

            Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

Vizio SmartCast TV software bug that looks like hardware
            by howardc64
Bug looks like hardware so thought I posted it here. Exact same behavior on 2 different model 4K Vizio TVs running their SmartCast smarttv software. After launching youtube app, press vizio button on remote to return to the smarttv menu, once in awhile, a column of bad pixels will show for few seconds on the left hand side.

It seems the vizio software is reinitializing hardware when returning to the smarttv menu. In general, SmartCast software isn't very good. Also will randomly (relatively infrequent) get no network connection when on wifi and require reboot....
