    Samsung LN46B610 Tiny Horizontal Lines

I picked up a Samsung LN46B610 from 2009 that has horizontal line issues. The lines are present on the left side of the screen - top to bottom - and gradually fade away to the center of the screen. Kind of a venetian blind effect. The lines are VERY thin, black (can't see them on black or dark colors), and occur about every quarter inch from top to bottom. The lines seem to be slightly worse when the set is first powered-up - then they fade a bit. They are almost undetectable from normal viewing distances.

I cleaned and reseated all the ribbon cables, gently moved the tabs, etc and nothing seems to effect the lines.

Upon checking the PS voltages I notices the 13V line was measuring 12.38, seems a tad low. Maybe my PS caps are on their way out? Is it possible that this low voltage could be causing these lines - perhaps the failing caps are not filtering well enough?

I've not had the exact same problem on your set, but I've had a similar problem on a year-older Samsung, which I'm watching right now (it's fixed.) It had repeating vertical lines which were green tinted. It turned out to be the T-con and swapping that sorted it. (Also, I just fixed one model using the same T-con, but that had an unrelated fault.) Usually regular, repeating glitches are T-con problems.

The PS caps can be confirmed by heating up the PSU with a hairdryer. Should the rail significantly rise, this could be the problem.

Thanks Tom - I'll try to find another T-con. Do you think the slightly low voltage on the 13V line is of concern?

      Thanks,
      Matt

It's probably alright; the 13V rail on the LE40A656 measured 12.85V though, so I do wonder why they called it a 13V rail when it sits close to 12V on your model. Try heating the capacitors which can confirm a failure with those.

Thanks Tom, will try the heat and report back.

I'm getting a little confused while searching for a T-con replacement. Seems as if there were two manufacturers: AUO and Samsung. My board is the Samsung. Which number on my T-con is the part number? Is it the 2009FA7M4C4LV0.9 number? These 2009FA7M4C4LV0.9 boards seem to be all over the place and different parts sellers have conflicting compatibility listings.

Just want to make sure if I get a T-con that matches the number I'll be set to go.

2009FA7M4C4LV0.9 is the board. I'm not aware of any compatibility issues. If your TV has a Samsung panel, you must use the Samsung T-con.

Thanks again for the info. Will report back once new t-con is installed.

Installed new (used) T-con, lines are still present as before. Main board or panel?

Re: Samsung LN46B610 Tiny Horizontal Lines

Failed t-con would give pattern across screen mostly.

A partial pattern or fading could very well be panel failure.

Someone could have sold a failed t-con thinking they pulled it from a tv with a failed panel.

It would help to know who the panel was made by.

That is a Samsung T-con. Has 100Hz/120Hz motion interpolation.

The "new" t-con could be bad as well, but what are the chances that it would have the exact same defect?

I believe it is a Samsung panel and yes it is a 120hz model:

Davheel- Just noticed your post - sorry for the delay. The issue has not been resolved, in fact, it has been getting worse. I have been regularly watching this TV as the lines are unnoticeable at normal viewing distance. However, lately the lines seem to have grown thicker and have now filled the entire screen from left to right. Occasionally the top-most four or five lines flicker white.

I think I will swap the old T-con back in and see if there is any change, and check the voltages again.

                          Any new ideas?

                          Thanks,
                          Matt

I have this problem too with this exact same TV.

The black lines are worse on left side, and are less noticeable on right side. From 10' away they are not that bad but I"m afraid they will get worse.

Has anyone solved this problem? My TV is way out of warranty.

Please tell me there is a fix...aside from a new TV!

Have not had a chance to pull mine apart again yet - hopefully I will within the next few weeks.

Have you tried wiggling the LVDS cable while the set is on?

Yes - have reseated and cleaned all cables, but it would be worth another try.

This set seems to be going downhill rapidly.

The set now changes the tiny black lines to grey - in a cascading pattern - from top of picture to bottom. Takes about a second, then resets and starts again. It will cause ghosting in fast moving content. Kind of like a waterfall effect.

After about 20 minutes the cascading gets faster and faster, and doesn't go all the way to the bottom. It kind of works it's way to the top and then stops all together, leaving me with just the black tiny lines.

Any thoughts on whats going on here???

                                      NEW VIDEO HERE

Now the set flickers for about 15 minutes, then goes into cascading lines (see video in my last post above) then clears-up altogether (except for the ever-present tiny black lines).

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

                                      Thanks,

Swapped the T-Con back to the original and all the new problems are still present, so I think I can rule out the T-Con. Also played with freeze spray on all the boards, tab bonds, and re-cleaned all cables and connections with no improvement.

Any chance this can be the tuner/video board before I scrap the set?
