      Re: LG PC1D Multiple Problems

      Both buffers and Y-sus.
      Very common failure.
Not worth reparing in most cases.

          Re: LG PC1D Multiple Problems

Sadly you need the Y buffers plus the Y sustain. Those are the X boards which nearly never fail. The boards in these TVs have a 2 to 5 year lifespan.

I highly recommend not spending a penny on repairing these.

Yes. So you're looking close to Β£200 to fix it.
Unless you can replace the IPM itself but you will still need the buffers plus the IPM is Β£30 and the cost of the solder station if you have to buy one.

i wouldnt actually mind paying the Β£200 to repair, saves the thing from going to the dump and will put in my living room. dnt realy use the living room tv much as i dont watch much tv. i do have a soldering iron but its a budget Β£30 one. what is the IPM ?

                      Re: LG PC1D Multiple Problems

I have tried to convince you but I cannot obviously. It is not a very good TV. Only HD Ready 720p, and very old plasma tech (no better than newer LCD.)

These things are very unreliable, you may look at the Z-sustain going next so add an extra Β£110 for that in a few months or years, depending on your luck. Or if the Y-sustain goes again it takes out the buffers too.

Oh, and they have bad cap and PSU problems too.

The IPM's the big beast under the heat sink, you will need a 60W or higher temperature regulated soldering iron to remove it.

I don't bother with these any more. LG's newer plasma TVs are worth fixing, but these are not.

No I don't think it's worth fixing and selling. Well, I lie. It is worth fixing and selling, you may get up to Β£275 for it. But you've just sold an unreliable set. Not your fault it dies in 3 month's time, I suppose?

Did you buy it for repairs?

These things regularly sell for around Β£20 to Β£40 here, to people who can replace the IPMs I guess. Whenever someone is selling an LG plasma I always ask: "does model contain PC" they say "yes" and I say "sorry can't buy it"..

Recently I discovered my SSD died (OCZ/Toshiba 240 GB). It was in a USB enclosure, attached to the Linksys WRT-AC1200 router. Since then I removed the USB enclosure and attached it to my Win7 PC (AMD 8150 CPU, 970 chipset, 64 GB RAM). I also gathered one or two other USB enclosures to figure out what is going on.

(I suspect that I lost quite a few MP3 and FLAC files I recently ripped from my audio CDs, I think I lost very little un-replaceable stuff.)
