Just fixed this box.

Basically it would either be a little too excited to greet you (constantly looping "HELLO" on the display) or it would sometimes boot, but there would be no video output. Once booted, it would appear to work (that is the VFD would show channel numbers and DVD status etc) but it still had no audio or video.

Fixing it is really easy. It simply needed new firmware put on it.

cheers tom my problem was a bad power sata connector 12v(yellow) shorted to ground(black) in the power connector for the harddrive. looks like a heat related issue as the sata power connector had a bit of a bubble. The Error I was getting was Err D, after I got rid of Err D, It was displaying Hello. I tried your method but the tray wouldn't open. After that I thought Ill hold down a button which was the power button. I managed to revive it through this method. I then loaded the latest firmware onto it using a disk. My model is LG BR625T hope this issue helps. other models most likely similar BR629T Reason I am thanking you is you gave me some hope after watching the video which motivated me to keep the repair going knowing the firmware can't be bricked.
