    Vizio VW42L-HDTV10A Flashing

I did a search and could not find my exact problem. My tv will come on and I can see a picture. The screen is flashing rapidly and there is popping coming from it. I have removed the back to look at the mother board and inverters. I see no signs of a burnt spot. I am an HVAC repair man and looking at the capacitors, they do not appear to be swollen or busted. I can find many threads with the screen flashing or blinking but they have a black screen. Mine has the picture in the background and the picture appears normal. I do not know what parts to fix or replace because of this problem. If it is the backlight it may not be worth fixing.

    Board- CSD-3642-0132-0395

    Inverter- 6632L-044BA pnel-T702A

Any advice would be much appreciated.

look on the inverter boards they are i think covered by a metal shield you should find 4 bloated caps two on each inverter.

Thanks everyone. That link was very helpful. Do you have a link on the best place to order the correct capacitors for these inverters. I want to be sure I get the right ones. I have never done this before but I have a friend that has worked on some circuit boards before.

Is there a place where I could just order the inverters and replace the whole thing.

                  Re: Vizio VW42L-HDTV10A Flashing

Digikey sells caps -- we would need the uF and V rating.

The inverters are available but likely very expensive -- more than $100 for both I'd say -- when caps would be under $10 shipped.

i have repaired three of these and the one that didnt repeat after 6 to 9 months, i used 50v caps because that was what i had on hand at the time. when the other two came in i replaced them with 50v caps and havent seen them back for repair. i know two of them are in service because i see them regularly. son has one daughter has the other.the one my daughter has i dont think is ever off until they go to bed.

just letting you know what i did. i didnt do it for any other reason than i had a few 470uf @50v that i bought for another tv which i hadnt used. tv failed and i needed to get i fixed and no other source than to order them i used what i had. it worked for me and everytime i have one of these sets to come in i plan on using 50v caps on it. i also did the inverter mods on the boards as well. on all three the only difference was the caps. the two that came back had the 35v caps and the brand was the same. where i buy my caps i usually buy all from one brand i have had luck with rubyicon and use them. and always use the lower esr caps. i also have the mod for the inverter boards in pdf if you want it.

35V is fine on the inverter; it uses 24V DC. No need to increase the voltage rating.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the advice. The capacitors came in yesterday and I got them soldered in this afternoon. The tv seems to be doing fine. The flashing is gone and the picture is good. Once again many thanks.

If the TV has a headphone port, does that work? If not, it probably has a standard audio output (digital or analog) -- try checking those.

Nope can't find a headphone jack. It does have the audio output, but I don't have a receiver or surround sound system.

Tv starts normal and responds to remote fine, PSU voltages mesured fine 19v was 18.9V under load and 19V with main board disconnected.

                                          Sound works fine.
screen keeps changing form black to full picture in about 1sec intervals.
Picture looks fine with no visible artifacts.
I have disconnected backlights and flashlight test confirmed that picture is still doing the same.

I just got this tv today and it appeared to have no backlight on. After taking off the rear cover and checking again in the dark I can see that MAYBE one quadrant is lit.. But still it's quite dim. I was going to check the LEDs with my tester, and I found LED 1 and LED 2 + pins on the wire from the inverter, but I couldn't identify a ground. Nonetheless I tried using a mounting screw on the inverter board and also the chassis as ground but regardless my tester reads 300 which is what it reads when there is no voltage draw.

I don't know how exactly to test the inverter itself. Is it...
