I would have probably have paid £60 cash for this on gumtree, so £71 on eBay is damn good!

Not going to sell this one -- too good to sell! It's going to be wall mounted in the student house.

I usually soak test them for about 2-3 days and make sure the described issue does not return and that there are no other major issues. (Minor issues like e.g. one scart port not working are accepted but mentioned in the ad.) I also offer 90 day warranties on anything I sell so if the customer has a problem they can return it for a full refund.

It's been running fine since with no issues. So I'd call it fixed.

Thanks tom for the information that's great that's what i needed to know i don't blame you for keeping the plasma i would do the same.I am surprised you offer 3 months warranty no body else usually would but that's where word of mouth sales come into it ie you sell a decent set decent price with warranty the word gets about.
I hope your student house goes well for you i used to manage a few regarding repairs etc and hmo regulations/inspections as long as you have good housemates/landlord you should be fine.

I got two Panasonic plasma model 50pz800 ($100) and 46pz800 ($50), they both bad cap issues, I fixed them. the manufacturing date was 2008, the picture is amazing, the panel was made in Japan. I kept the 50" and sell the 46".
But the issue is the power consumtion is around 600W !

Yes, I have heard of bad caps in Panasonic now, seems unlikely, they use really good ones! But apparently they do fail.

Boy, yes, this panel uses a lot of power. Got my energy meter out, and on full white it is 470W, but on ordinary bright image it can be 550W! I am guessing it is doing some kind of power limiting for full bright white, which isn't applied as aggressively for images. Ordinary TV varies from 60W (full dark) to around 530W (typical bright scene), averaging around 300~350W. Apparently newer Panasonic use average of just 90W, with almost the same brightness -- will have to see if I can get one of those as an upgrade.

Some questions to Tom, is the original fault only a connection problem? Or the D board was really faulty? I saw your discrete rating on plasma tv repairs, and seems that you know much things about, from where do you have found infos and technical docs about plasma technology? Was that free of charge and public on th net? Thanks...

                      - Turned out to be LVDS cable loose due to connection being poor at time of factory installation. Reseated it, has played perfectly for 2+ years. Ended up giving it to a friend in trade for a 42" Panasonic plasma panel with Freesat, still going strong in his living room.

                      - Info on TV repairs has been learned manually by repairing many TVs, you can read some of my older posts and see just how many things I got wrong. Some documentation helps, but there isn't that much on plasmas and to be honest, a lot of it is just wrong. Eventually when you get enough info the whole thing just starts making sense. I've got a whole post on the "theory of operation" of plasma displays. I need to update it, because there are a few things there which I now understand to be wrong as well. https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=25283 plus this document from Panasonic explains the basic principle of AC-PDP in 2001 (which hasn't changed too much, just been significantly refined)
