Glad to hear it's working - shame this set isn't sold in the UK or I'd nab one up, seems easy to fix.

It was easy thanks you you guys. I wouldn't have had a chance w/o this forum.

It seems really nice but all I've hooked up on it so far is a PS2 LOL.

        Hey guys,

Just wanted to report back, now that I've had this TV on my wall for a bit.

We're not too happy with the picture

It's hard to explain really, but it just seems like all the actors are in front of a green screen and the background was edited in!

Also, when the camera pans around it just seems weird. It seems like there is more camera movement than normal...jittery almost...

Like I say, very hard to put into words, but it's not good.

I'm going to set up my Panasonic plasma side by side and compare but in the meantime, does anyone recognize what I'm "trying" to explain?

Sounds like you've been bitten by the big screen, but one made very cheaply! Sadly, older LCD technology really struggles on bigger screens. You begin to notice significant motion blur and contrast issues. I'd take a smaller, older generation plasma over any big LCD any day.

Oh well, can't complain for the price I suppose but the Panny is going back up!

I guess I will sell the 55" or give it to my Mom.

Good thing this all happened because I after taking the Panny down, I realized that I have not cleaned it since I've had it and just about all the vents were clogged... OUCH!

I know exactly what you are talking about.

About 4 years ago, I was at the local home show and Sony had a huge exhibit there showing their latest 240Hz LCD state of the art 60 inch TV. It was playing Dark Knight on Blu-ray.

I watched it for a bit and thought the picture looked fake and looked like "live" video TV (think news broadcasts) instead of a film.

To me anything over a 42" picture looks like that. It's like you can tell it was filmed on a studio set. It almost takes some of the realism away. I've seen back to the future at least a hundred times. I recently watched it on a 47" Sharp 120Hz that I fixed and really noticed it.

Lol, yes retiredcaps, just like that!!! My thoughts were "it looks like cheap soap opera or b-flick movie"

johnboy1313, I see what you are saying. But, I never noticed this on my 50 inch panasonic(it's a plasma though)

I've changed some settings and it seems to have gotten a bit better. I believe one setting was MFC or similar. Not even sure what it is but I turned it off.

I do believe I will set up both tvs side by side just for kicks! Not sure what the fate of the 55" proscan is yet...it may be headed for the sale ads lol.

                  Thanks again everyone!

I'd sell it and sit closer to the TV. IMO, I don't see the point of a TV >50". Just sit closer!

                      Marty, RetiredCaps,

I wanted to let you know that this "soap opera" effect is actually a "feature" of the TV. Mine does the same thing. It can be completely disabled in the settings. I know it was driving me nuts! You can even put it in demo mode so half the TV does it and the other half doesn't. It's actually because the TV runs at a higher frequency, you have the option to generate additional frames (or the in between frames) to get super smooth video. As a result, you're running at 60fps instead of the usual 30 (or 27?) and that results in the soap opera look.

I have the 47" version of this TV and I'm in the process of fixing the power supply (same C857 issue it seems! Reading 15nF instead of 68!!) so once I get it back up, I can get the exact name of the setting in the menu for you, assuming you haven't already found it.

                      Cheers!

Well, C857 was the culprit and my 47" version ( 47LC55S240V87 ) is up and running again!

For future reference, to turn off that "soap opera" effect / digital enhancement:

                        Goto the TV Menu,
                        Select Video,
                        Then Advanced,

And look for the MFC setting. Turn it off!

                        Thanks for all the help!
