    Re: Memorex MLT3221 no power

Look real close at all the caps, especially the ones under the heatsink on the right of the board. What you can also do is to unplug the TV, use the hair dryer to heat up the board for 3-4 minutes, then plug the TV in and monitor the 5VSTBY to see if it becomes stable, it sounds like it has bad start-up cap. The bad part is that you have to remove the hest sink to get to them. They are also known for having 2 bad 10uf 450vdc caps for the inverter section.

You will need to inspect the caps real close, as suggested, the startup cap for the stby5V which is under the heatsink. Do you have ESR meter?

They use the Poly caps instead.

                Re: Memorex MLT3221 no power

On this model there aren't any known failures with those caps and anyway the TV standby voltage would still be good as they only couple the drive to the inverter transformers.

I see the disc on the main big capacitor (marked 25/105/V46) is bulging, try pressing this down, if you can depress it so it is flat the capacitor is OK, but if you can't then it could be failed.

                    Re: Memorex MLT3221 no power

The large cap on my board also has domed plastic cap, remove the top, it turns out to be the plastic cap is deformed but the metal cap is flat, you can remove the black disc and see.
It is hard to get to the start up caps since they are mounted under the heat sink. You may be able to fish it through the hestsink hole, you can see it in your pictures. The two caps on my board are lytics type your are Poly type and they are for the inverter circuits, you need to fix the 5CSTBY problem first to see if anything else are bad.
You can also check the DC on that large cap to see if it is fluctuating when the TV is OFF, when TV is on the PFC Voltage booster will kick in, then the voltage will go up to around 380-400vdc.

O.K you lost me on the large cap voltage going up to 380-400 volts. large cap has 185 volts and it does not fluctuate when power is off.

At this point it will probably not work since the processor does not have steady standby voltage to run the main board circuits. Need to get the stby fixed first.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                          Assuming...

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power

                                          Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                                          Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply

I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
