Evening gents, just like to share todays find from a garbage run to the local dump. I saw a Samsung LN 54051D 42" TV sitting in the electronics shed. Nice casing and unbroken, scratch free panel so I gave that little honey a ride home to my place !
After plugging it in, it sits there flashing a little red LED in the power button. OK, so there's something wrong with it (of course). So then I pressed the power button.. The TV fired up and displayed a very nice picture I fed it via RGB from my laptop. Worked fine for the short time I allowed it before I decided to open it up for a looksee.
Besides the fact that the previous owners were smokers (I could smell it as it warmed up when I had it running)
The only thing visibly wrong is bad caps on the PSU. As you can also see it has been repaired (inexpertly) before. Those originals are Samwa 25v 1000uF. The replacements read Xicon 35v 1000uF. So this is going to be a simple 'refurbish' and destined for my daughter's bedroom wall.
I want to give the PSU a full re-cap just for the hell of it in Panasonics unless others here want to tell me its a poor decision.. The control board is fine and capped completely in polymers. The T-con I never took off the shield, presuming by the good picture I got, its OK.
So my questions, if I may, are..
Would you replace the primary capacitor ? The original is a Jianghai 450V 220uF and its a fat, squat bugger probably hard to get the low height size ? Or I guess I could lay a taller one over.
And, see that 25V 220uF in front of the Xicons ? Is it Samwa RD series ? Most of the small caps on the board are the same make and series. Do we have access to datasheets for matching ?
Many thanks in advance guys..
