    Emerson 40" LCD Model LC 401EM2F Possible purchase

    I acquired this 40" LCD TV Set that has a cracked LCD panel, in search of a replacement panel I found another identical TV set for sale with this symptom (Horizontal Line on the Screen, see attached picture) I have been under the impression that defective panels have one or more vertical lines and that a horizontal line could be a possible T-CON Board problem? any advise is appreciated. Does anyone know of a LCD Panel Supplier? Panel # is

    Nope, on an LCD, any line in any direction is a bad panel.
    Only with plasma displays is a horizontal line possibly a bad buffer board.

      Thanks Tom, I haven't disassembled an LCD TV all the way down to separating the LCD Panel as of yet, but I may do it on this one if I can't find a replacement panel, could you tell me if the tab bonds are only located where the ribbon cables are coming from the T-CON Board then attach to the LCD Panel?

        It is not the tab bonds, well, probably not. More than likely it is the actual chip on the right hand side which has failed. Technically this chip consists of just resistors to the VCOM on the panel. It's possible you could substitute an actual resistor in, but I doubt it would work well.

          The TV with the Picture in Post#1 was on Ebay and has been sold, but I have the same model with a cracked LCD Screen as I have posted here, so now I either wait until I can find a good Panel or just tear this set down and salvage all parts to sell or save for possible future use, and I could also disassemble the LCD Panel and possibly save the Back Lights/Tubes.

            I sent an RFQ for a for a quote, they say the one company has 1300 of these Panels, do you think they will sell just 1 to me? Here's the Link.

                I sent them a request for a price quote, I'm waiting on a reply, I imagine they will be sky high with the price but we will see.
