Re: phillips lcd keeps blowing fuse

Not 100% for sure since bad lamp (one or more may not be on) can also cause shutdown.
Also, you have indicated earlier that you still cannot turn the TV off per post 81, unless I read it wrong.

The Tv does turn off. I was responding to a question someone asked if the TV turned off " on it's own " . the Tv functions correctly menu, volume, channels, ect. turns off and on with power button. everything works except backlight.

I would try new inverter board at this point if it is cheap enough.

That is not good news, sorry to hear that. I do not see what else it can be, since it has all the required voltages and signals. Inspecting the lamp assembly will be the next thing to do. Not sure if it will be worth it at this point.

I put the inverter and t-con back in and attached power. I can confirm the all bulbs do light up. still a quick flash of light

Yes - one bad could cause them all to cut out.

Not conclusive perhaps rig a couple of Budms test lamps?

can I hook up a 9v battery to test the lamps?

Pretty certain the answer is NO. The lamps usually run at something like 1200vAC
provided by the inverter transformers. - If you meant to power the inverter transformers?
the answer is still no. You can get bulb testers - (basically an inverter) or even an inverter board on ebay - but I am not sure if they will power those tubes as they will be quite long?

You started working on this TV exactly a month ago. A lot of man hours went into this thing and it's only a 40 Inch LCD TV. I know it's hard to give up on things but there are a lot easier repairs out there just waiting for you. Set this one aside and move on, if you can. I've even put them back together and sold them as non working sets the same way that I bought them off of CL. I would end up getting the same amount of money that I bought it for in the same condition. Minimize your losses.

Like I said before, there are a lot of easy repairs out there of larger TV's. You will do fine with those.

Okay, originally you had a power supply problem with it blowing the line fuse, you replaced the power supply board, do you still have the old board? please verify that the white barcode stickers match on both boards, these stickers are the correct part number, the number on the actual board is the part number of the bare board without any components, I'm just wondering if you have a replacement power supply board that mounts and connects and looks the same but could be different in some respect and is causing then inverter power ( high voltage to shut down) I may be wrong but it doesn't hurt to check it out, also has anyone else worked on this set prior to you? Make sure your replacement inverter and power supply boards are in fact the correct ones.

Can you see where the bulbs plug into their sockets? maybe one or more is not seated all the way in?

MisterD I still have the old board I will check the stickers. DJtech you are correct. This is more of a hobby to me I dont do this for the money.

I pulled the inverter board and reinstalled with inverter " contact clips " resting on the plastic fittings. then installed the mounting screws. this way the inverter was not in contact with the bulbs. tested this and the same issue..so im lost! pulled T-con & tested still the same. pulled cable from inverter and retested BL_sw jumps to 3v when blacklight " should kick in "

Doesnt matter which board you ordered when you plug it in it should not go Bang.

UNLESS you had it standing on a conductive surface?

In any case its says both are compatible with your set. Power boards - if the connectors are right ar less fussy than main boards.

                                        EDIT

By the way did you read the service note - does your board have that diode?

I have a 40" Emerson with a cracked LCD Panel/Screen,it powers on with everything working, I can actually make out part of the picture on the screen, it was given to me and I have not disassembled it as of yet, attached picture of chassis with back removed, it appears to be very similar to your philips, I believe that Philips/Magnavox and Emerson are all made by the same Company, I'm wondering if there are any voltages I can check on mine (working) to compare with yours (no backlights) that would actually help in your diagnosis, maybe Bud or Tom can advise.
