Sharp Aquos LC-42D69U No Power or Standby LED, +5VSB working

    Hi all!

I've been scouring the corners of the internet for some time now trying to find a group of technical know-hows to run some questions by. Looks like I finally found the place!

Anyways, here is my story. I have a Sharp Aquos LC-42D69U that does not power up. It has no standby LED, but the PSU does output +5VSB. If I manually short PS_ON and BL_ON to +3.3v I can see the backlight illuminate the display, however, the motherboard still has no logic. I've soldered wires to the TTL (serial) output to see if I can see anything from the processor. I used 9600 and 115200, 8, N, 1, but I didn't get any output. I purchased another identical motherboard (PN# 795951300500R from eBay, but I still have the same results. I'm stumped! I've been referencing the service manual for repairs (sharp_lc-32d59u_lc-42d69u.pdf). Here is what I've done so far.
    • Visual Inspection of PSU, Motherboard, Inverter. All looks good, no burn spots on the PSU, no blown caps.
    • Tested all fuses in PSU and original motherboard.
    • Confirmed +161V at D801 (Diode feeds +5VSB).
    • Confirmed +5VSB from PSU to motherboard, +3.3V and +1.85V on motherboard.
    • Shorted PS_ON, BL_ON to +3.3V and confirmed +12V and +24V rails on PSU are outputting. Backlight will turn on. Still no logic from Motherboard.
    • Desoldered the major caps from the PSU and tested each one for a short and confirmed they are slightly charging using my multimeter.
    • Confirmed power switch is working by seeing ~600 Ohms when pressed. May need to investigate further. Unfortunately I don't have the remote to try turning on.
    • Accidentally burnt up Q1403 (NPN Transistor, PMBT3904, see attached picture) on the original board while attempting to short BL_ON with too much voltage. May order replacement part from Digikey if main mobo is not dead.
    • Confirmed standby LED is not burned out and in the process I did burn it out :P. I soldered another LED in place, but decided to use my multimeter instead to watch for input voltage because I wasn't sure if my LED would light up.
    • Replaced motherboard from eBay with exact same item model #795951300500R. Tested new motherboard and reached the same results. No standby LED, no power. Tried holding power button 30+ seconds, etc.

So after all this I am still unable to get it going. I could use some expert advice and appreciate anything you can provide!

One thing I forgot to mention is that I noticed the original motherboard CPU gets hot to the touch after a few minutes and the new one doesn't seem to get above room temperature.

So with the main board connected, do you get any other voltages from the power supply besides the 5v Stby? Monitor the 12v line while plugging unit in and see if it comes up then goes down. If it does, you probably have a panel problem. If it does not, you may have received a bad new board.

Hi Randtek, thanks for your reply. When I first plug the TV in, the only voltage I checked was 5vsb. I will check the 12v rail like you mentioned when I get home. If I apply 3.3v to PS_ON I do see +12v and 24v become active. If I disconnect the TCON and inverter I still only get 5vsb and nothing else so I am hoping this means the panel is OK. Even though I see 5vsb, 12v, and 24v when I jump PS_ON could the PSU be the problem?

Extremely unlikely. If you can force it on and get all of the correct voltages out of it, it is probably a good power board. I have only had 2 power boards bad on this model, main boards I have had over a dozen bad.

Damn, the seller only offered a 14 day return and took 10 days to send it. Plus I've had it for three weeks now. Guess I'll try to get ebay/PayPal to refund. Have you seen one of these motherboards with no standby light at all? One thing I can do is stick in a USB drive and see lights flash. Does the same for both motherboards.

Should of clarified, the lights are flashing on the usb stick only.

I contacted the seller and they said they will send out a new motherboard. Phew! Anything I should try before the new one comes?

Not really. Just wait for the board. And yes, I have seen several of these with no power light. The most common failure I have seen on them is completely dead like that, but the power board is good.

I recieved the replacement board, and success! TV turns on and display appears to work well, however the HDMI looks like it is broken. I can't get any devices to work over any of the HDMI ports. Tried three separate HDMI cables and three different devices. Looks like I need a 3rd replacement board :/

Sharp Aquos LC-70C6400U Half Screen Dark
                      by scubacamper
I found another post on this site the other day which has been very helpful in troubleshooting this issue I am having with my tv. The left half of the screen is dark, and the other half is VERY slow to generate it's image - and it only generates part of its image at that.
Based on this yt video, I have narrowed it down to an issue (short?) on the left side of the display, somewhere in the system of ribbon cables.
when I remove the bezel and the rear cover, I can get the image to display correctly by manipulating the ribbon cables on the left side which connects the left lower display...

Sharp Aquos Lc-80LE757U flashing Sharp on screen when plugged in
                      by sefoster
I have a Sharp Aquos LC-80LE757U that randomly made a loud popping noise when when watching TV one day. We found that the fuse blew and the thermistor. We ended up replacing the entire power supply board and have also replaced the TCON board. Now as soon as I plug the TV in it lights up and has the Sharp logo flashing on and off of the screen. If I unplug the ribbon cable from the TCON board to the main board I get the 2 long 5 short error code. Any ideas on where to go from here? We've tried resetting it but nothing has worked. If we plug it in and let it cycle through the flashing of the Sharp...

Sharp Aquos LC-40UG7252E LCD TV burn in?
                      by jonah1024
                      Hello!

I'm a few days old into this TV screens repair universe so please bear with me.

Recently, and all of a sudden my 40” 4K Sharp Aquos LCD TV turned on with colors all smudged in some places on the screen that remain like that even without any kind of video source. I do have image but the colors are smudged/tinted/ washed out in patches as per defects. This to me looks similar to burn in but I’m shore this is not an OLED.

                      - I did the classic unplug and hold power button to discharge the caps but it didn't help.
                      - I did a factory reset as well...

                      Hi community,

I will describe my problem with a TV in those short following terms to be the most precise :

                      main logic board QPWBXF733WJN2

                      symptoms :
white led light logo at startup,
after 2 minutes, blinking 3 times a row, repeating
no backlight (and apparently no picture, checked panel with flashlight)
                      no startup sound

                      powerboard investigations :
