Emerson LC320EM2F power light blinks, doesnt turn on

Hello all, I am new to your site, but it looks like I could be spending some time here looking and learning.

Long story short, I bought this tv black friday of last year (so one year and 2 days ago) I get home today, try to turn the tv on, the power light just blinks. No screen flash, nothing. Unplugging it and plugging it back in causes the power light to blink 6 or 7 times before going to the usual solid red light of off. I opened up the back, and everything looked good.

Experience wise, I have been building computers awhile now, but I do not have any tools other than a screwdriver. I can post picutres of the two boards if you all think I should.

Thanks for any help or even a direction to look for help!

Post a picture if you have a camera. You're going to need a multimeter. I've fixed a sylvanaia and an emerson with a similar power supply and both times it was a shorted diode.

I can look into getting a multimeter tomorrow from the local hardware or pawn shops. The pictures of both boards together, then the close up of each are attached.

I am guessing my issue is with the board the power plugs directly into, but both boards are pictured just in case. The fuse is intact because the picture does not show it.

If it is the Diode, since it would be difficult for me to remove the broken one and replace and resolder, plus the cost of buying all new tools, should I just buy a new board? Shopjimmy.com had alternate model numbers since my exact model number(BA17F1F01 02 2) is sold out. It said there was a sylvania board that would work just the same. Its model number is BA17F1F01 02 1. Is there a difference between these two boards? The Sylvania one is on Ebay for about $23.

If you want to just get a basic meter harbor freight has some reasonbly priced ones. I think you can get a basic craftsman meter from sears for about $10. Whatever meter you chose just make sure it has a diode test function on it. I'm pretty sure even the cheapest meters all have this ability.

Ok, I will get a meter tomorrow. If I do find a popped diode, would replacing the board make more sense? I dont have a soldering iron or anything else with that. I need a meter for other things in the future anyway I am sure. I would link the board I found but I am unsure of posting outside links on here. Thanks for all your help!

A replacement board should put you back in business. But if it is a bad diode then you should be able to replace that part for less than $5 including shipping. You can post a link to a site that's selling your board. Linking inline photos are mainly what is frowned on here. Some members internet has a cap for data and if they exceed that limit they have to pay an extra fee. It makes the page load slower too.

The seller is an Ebay store.. The difference between the pictured board and my board is the last number is a 1 instead of a 2 on the part number.. The boards with a 2 are about $60 for an identical looking board..

              Board I am looking at:
              http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI...ectorid=229466

As for replacing the Diode, i have limited experience in soldering, and own none of the materials to remove the old one nor to put in the new one which is why I am hesitant about doing that.

What you posted is a repair kit. You'll still have to solder in whatever is bad. What is the first few digits of your serial number on the back of you tv? example: DS1

DS1A1127126212 is my serial number And the board pictured wouldnt work I dont think, since the spot where the power cord plugs into is different than on the 2(the one I have) and 3 boards.

Shop Jimmy is out of stock for your power supply but they do have a compatible match thats included with a repair kit.

Here is the link to the power supply you need.
                    http://www.shopjimmy.com/emerson-a17...upply-unit.htm
If you look to the right of the picture it shows other boards that will work.

If you click on the very first one it opens a new window. Scroll down to the very last one and it shows a repair kit which does include the power supply and main board.
                    http://www.shopjimmy.com/emerson-lc3...-version-1.htm

Only $54.95 and you could ebay the mainboard for cheap to recover some of the money.

Thanks again for all your help, I will go ahead and pick up a multimeter tomorrow to double check that is what I will need, then order the repair kit you have linked. Ill post back here with the results once I get it up and running again!

Surprisingly, one of the most respected names in the industry, makes a current model that doesn't have a diode test function.
