    p50 hdtv20a

    Vizio p50 hdtv20a

    No picture
    No sound
plug in set amber light is on
push power button light turns green and stays on

Here is a little difference from what ive found in my searches, when I try
to turn set off with power button it just stays green. The only way I can turn off is to pull plug.

Normally it looks like the likely problem is y sus and buffer boards, but Im hopeful
with the set not powering off it could be the main board(0171-2272-2302)

    Appreciate any help

ps. I have pushed the input button multiple times and hear no sound, is this the correct procedure when you say cycle through inputs?

Post pics of the inside of the TV (using the attachment manager) Show full tv with back off, a Power supply pic, and main board pic at least.
Do you have a Digital Multimeter?

The pics are poor, You should use a proper camera. Does the PSU have labels for voltage? If so check to see if voltage is as what is marked on the pins.

That should be the service manual.

              Re: p50 hdtv20a

does the VS VA and VT voltage stay on for the entire time that the green light is on? or does it go away after a few seconds of being on?

I should also ask if any caps look bad?

I would think it is the main board, But I would wait for a much more informed forum member to confirm anything.

Could any one confirm IamCanadian's diagnosis before I buy the board.
                                Thanks

Check the regulators on the main board - Vizio is plagued with this - the fact it does not turn off may lead to this.

A primed panel is a good sign though.
Is there a fuse on the CTRL board? (That is the board behind the main)

I found 2 of what I recognize as regulators. One has three legs which checked from center to one side at 12v and center to the other side at 5v. the other regulator had three legs but the center one was cut off it checked 3.3v. Im not sure the two legged one is regulator although it looks like one without the heat sink.

The only thing that looked like fuses were small white rectangles with copper or brass caps on the ends, these checked out ok. There were also three of these on main board that checked ok also.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge. I do appreciate your help. It would be awesome if I could get this thing working.

Any other Ideas for this wannabe tv tech?

Here, I circled some to test.
Report it by posting the component location then part number and then voltage on each pin.

do you want those to be checked from each pin to ground? or from the center pin to the outside pins?

I have all the numbers from each pin to ground but wasnt sure if that was what you wanted.

                                        Thanks for your help
