Oh, I see it! That IC has a hole in it... wow. Usually they just go on their own accord. If something was real bad, the TV wouldn't power up at all, or all the ICs would be dead.

I was surprised to see it too. It makes diagnosing things a whole lot easier. I have opted to try to change out the IC instead of the board. I got the old one off with minimal problems, now I'm just waiting on the new one in the mail...

I'm going to be as careful as possible and triple check my work before plugging the TV, but what if I screw up my soldering job? Is it possible it could damage other boards or even the panel when I turn it on?

How did you manage to remove that epoxy? Or was it something softer.

        A working TV? How boring!

Soft silicone I think, i just used a razor. But when encounter epoxy usually 200c from the heat gun and a razor blade will do it. What is this soft glue for? keeping the legs from lifting?

If you short lines together, you'll likely damage your new buffer IC, but that should be where the damage stops.

The panel is essentially glass and wires. It's very difficult to break it electrically.

It just peels off. It's HV insulating epoxy. Because each of those rows are energised with -200V/+400V relative to common depending on the current state of the sustain waveform. I had one buffer with a rather toasty insect (a small fly) between some of the pins. It didn't end well for the insect -OR- the buffer but luckily the part was cheap.

I wasn't planning on replacing the glue, but I am thinking twice now... Is there anything I could buy locally at a home improvement store? Will these ICs get too warm for hot glue?

Hot glue isn't great but it should be an acceptable substitute.

Ok, and what about the "big cap" you talked about in earlier posts? Is it on the power board? They all physically look good, but I haven't put my meter on them yet.

If they haven't bulged on this set they're OK. I think the failure on this is simply a random event.

I think these ICs are just kind of crappy. There are lots of people on ebay offering repair service for this board for $80-$100 so, I guess the problem is wide spread.

Surprisingly this beast has no fans although I think it has room for some. If I get it working I think I might add some. Is there 12v anywhere on the psu I could tap into?

More than likely 12V for audio or main board you could run a fan off. Most Panasonics use fans for reliability. Disappointing that Hitachi wouldn't use some, especially if it's an older plasma (much higher power consumption)

490 watt max, 393 average. I guess it could be worse for a 2007 55" plasma.

Well, for comparison, a 2006 NEC 50 incher (that I fixed) drew close to 550W full white and about half that average.

I just ran the tv with the bottom buffer board out and the bottom half of the TV was black as expected but the top half still had the even odd problem. Is this to be expected or do I have more problems?

I had the same issue with a Panasonic plasma. Something didn't sync up right when the bottom was out, and I only got an interlaced picture on the top half.

Oh, I forgot to mention the 550W NEC had two fans. One for the combined Y-sus/Z-sus (all in one board with massive hybrid module), and one for the PSU.

So I think Hitachi were just cutting costs by not including a fan, and it might have lead to buffer failure. You can also install heatsinks on the buffer ICs, Panasonic does this a lot.

What would I use to attach the heat sinks? The epoxy would make it hard to get good contact with the chip.

Thermal adhesive. (Adhesive which is a good thermal conductor.)

15 heat sinks and thermal plaster for less than $5. Thank you ebay. Just think of how cheap hitachi could get them. Weird they didn't include them in a $3,000 TV.

                                            Hi all
I have lines on the screen...which is an age old problem that can be remedied by watching Youtube videos and getting out the tape.
My issue (after successfully fixing a different sammy tv with a separate tcon board and isolating the side of the panel...):

This tv has an integrated tcon...so it is a bit more confusing when trying to isolate the clocks.
It has a c ribbon and i have taken each end out to see if that will isolate the lines. instead, it makes it much worse ALL over the tv!

So....i don't know what end of the C ribbon to work with...

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture

I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and

Sony KD-55XG9505 lines on screen problem
                                            by Chrissygizmo
                                            Hello again everyone,

This is my latest mission, to try getting this Sony tv back to normal working order…

I've only just got it today, when you power it up everything is as should be, in fact it works perfectly for a few minutes then the screen starts getting horizontal lines on & eventually the full screen goes back, I will upload photos of the problem & also some photos of the board etc. You might notice that I'm busy trying the tape method, I'm not sure exactly where the clock lines are so I'm just guessing & hoping for the best lol . I've already tried...

Sony XBR-65X750D Horizontal lines bottom of screen
                                            by ggil44
Hi, I have a Sony XBR-65X750D that has horizontal lines at the bottom 6 inches of the screen. These lines appear to be every other line because the picture is still quite visible behind those lines. The lines appear all the time with a few other lines above and below the 6 inch level blinking on and off at about 2 second intervals. I'm not sure if this is a panel issue or power supply/main board problem. I did replace the T-Con board without any change in the problem. Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

                                            Good morning.
I have a problem with my LG Smart 43UF640V TV. It starts, the backlight comes on but nothing is displayed on the screen and there is no sound.
I thought it was a TCon problem and ran various tests. If I disconnect one or the other of the cables from the tcon to the panel then the screen is white on the side where the cable is disconnected and black on the other side. If the two cables are disconnected the screen is completely black.
In the 4 configurations I measure exactly the same voltages on the tcon card (model V15 43UHD TM120 Ver0.4) :

                                            HVDD : 7,28...
