LG pop of death - troubleshooting

Hi all. I have searched the forums and found similar posts, I have specific troubleshooting I have done thats why I posted a new thread. I have a 50" LG plasma I bought in 2009. Just popped and no picture. I try to turn it on again and tries to come on, makes a buzz noise by the z sus board, then quickly shuts off. If I unplug the z board from the power board (larger wires) and control board (smaller wires) the tv works but is dim and eventually turns mostly red color. If I connect the z sus to the power board, same thing. But if I connect it back to the control board it has the problem where it will buzz and turn off. No visual damage to any components that I can see. So I figure its either the z board or control board. I just ordered the z sus since that's what makes the buzz noise. The tv is a 50PS something. Any thoughts? I can post pictures and get the full model number if someone is listening. Thank you! Stupid tv!

I would agree with your conclusion. It's pretty typical to see a dim picture without a functioning Z-board. Replacing that should be all that's necessary.

Thanks for the response. I just hope that when I change out the z sus that the control board has something messed up and causes that one to go too. Wouldn't figure that that particular connection would cause an issue...

I have never seen a bad control board kill a sustain. It could happen, but it would most likely be due to bad software on the control board, not a physical fault.

Ok great, thank you. Amazing how many people have had problems. Although 1080p is awesome, they don't make tvs like they used to.

Sorry, I forgot to ask: what would cause the screen to go red? I turned it on first thing this morning and it wasn't all red like last night when the tv was warm.

When the Z-sus goes bad you get underdiffusion. This usually manifests itself as red or blue pixels misfiring, depending on the panel technology. Never seen it with green, but wouldn't rule it out.
