    Dell 2208wfp hissing

I have 3 of these, all with the same issue, 3 seconds to blank. I replaced the burnt out caps on all 3 screens, two of them came back alive. This is an image of the 3rd one.

In the image, the red circle is the only burnt out cap that i replaced. The blue circle is where im getting the hissing sound from.

I turn on the screen, get the high pitched hiss, the screen goes blank after a couple of seconds, the hissing stops. If i do this in the dark, i can actually see the wires leading from the board glow a blue/purple colour, this is accompanied by a chemical burning smell. I havent messed too much more than this, i understand that the currents involved could be tremendous. Does anyone have an idea as to whats happening ? is there such a thing as a dead electrolytic cap that doesnt show obvious visual cues ? Any advice is very welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

Does the hissing happen when the wired are disconnected? First I would try one plug at a time to see if the bulbs light in that socket. I would say you have a direct short bulb socket to ground to cause this.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

I messed a little more. I plugged each bulb into their own sockets, same result, i plugged swapped them around (so bottom bulb in top socket, top bulb in bottom socket) and i get the hissing from the same wires, not the same socket. So this points to the problem being the actual bulb and not the socket. I have never replaced a bulb and would be quite sure that repairing a bulb probably isnt possible.

Bulb replacement isnt impossible, you just have to be careful for they are very fragile. If you cannot find replacements find a busted LCD and steel the bulbs out of those.

And to your first post, caps can definitely be bad without a visual sign (such as bulging).

Yes, the Dell 2208 with bad lamp wiring and also bad transformers, fix about a dozen of these, all with bad wire that just barely hanging on to the lamp's ends.

Also wanted to mention you can get bulbs of any size you want from www.ccflwarehouse.com/ I have had no issue with their bulbs...and also on that note the first few you change are a pain to do but after you do a few of em they do get easier....

Also the very first two i have ever done i destroyed due to slightly ripped tabs be very careful of those tabs when you unsnap the frame... I learned the hard way, you may wanna practice on a monitor you don't care about, like a little 15 incher er something.... and if you get it back together without lines in the screen you have done well...

Awesome replies, and thankyou for the photobucket. I pulled the bulbs out, slowly, broke one of them. The ends didnt look burned like yours did though, ill pick up some replacements from the cflwarehouse and attempt my first bulb transplant I found the same screen on ebay with horizontal lines, i could in worst case scenario, buy that, and swap the lcd panel with my good panel. Experiment continues with the aid of your photobucket !

                      by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.

I would like to share my experience about charging issues with Dell power supplies with the tech community. I am working on a Dell Inspiron 5590, Mainboard 18778-1 with charging problems. The device can be switched on and works so far, only the message appears at startup:

Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and Type cannot be determined. The battery may not change. The System will adjust the performace to match the power available.

The power supply unit is not recognized in the Bios and the charging process is set to "idle". I use original Dell battery, type...

TOSHIBA DLP 52HM95 How to reset timer module on bulb
                      by repair-it
I replaced the bulb only on my Toshiba DLP The bulb is a TB-25. This is the first time I've done a bulb only replacement. Supposedly there is a timer module that needs to be re-calibrated or reset. I don't know where the module is located. I see some vendors selling the bulb with the housing stating module included which leads me to think the module is located inside the enclosure the bulb mounts in, but I didn't see it. Maybe it's inside the plug attached to the bulb?

Anyway - I am seeking information on how to reset this so called module so that the lamp will operate. Apparently...

                      Hello all,

this is my first post, so if I make mistakes please do not hesitate to point them out, thank you in advance.

I got a Dell Latitude 5420 (Service Tag: 7RFM6D3, Motherboard: GDF40 LA-491P Rev.: 2.0 (A01)) which does not start and I want to repair it. These are the symptoms:

If the laptop is only connected to the AC adapter (battery removed):

When I press the power button, the keyboard backlight and the display backlight are turning on. Caps key light is lightning, but key does not respond to pressing it.

                      The power/battery...
