Ah did not know that. Good to know.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Thanks for all your advice guys, unfortunately the problem still present.

I am leaning towards the mainboard still so have to see if i can find one for the Sharp 32". I have found several that have the right number of HDMI sockets (as tom66 pointed out to check) but they are for different makes, surely the firmware will be different forthan for this model Sharp ? I dont want to waste time & money buying one for a different make if it's not going to work properly in this Sharp.

Also, tom66, i still cant understand why i have all the outputs present when the input voltage on STBY is permanently 0v. I see the jumpers on the drawing that force the output (3v3) on but can't understand why they would want to do that.

If any one has a 17pw26-4 lying around i would appreciate it if they could check if theirs does the same

I figure STBY may mean "if this pin is HIGH the TV is in standby". Otherwise, it would be PS-ON or POWER ON or similar. It would be very, very odd for your power supply to reverse the meaning of a signal.

Re the jumpers - comes down to cost - will mean TV uses more in standby but the customer pays so who cares.

Re firmware - no worries with a Vestel as far as I am aware as they are all the same TV inside. There is nothing Sharp customise on these except the bezel and remote, maybe change the colours of the menus or something like that but nothing that will stop it from functioning.

Had an Alba Vestel here a few weeks ago but it's since been sold, would have checked for you as it used a 17PW26-4 and same main board. It cost about £50 less new though...

Re: Sharp LC-32D12E Standby Light Just Flashing

Thanks Tom, i thought maybe the firmware would be diferent for each maker.

Vince , thats an excellent link you gave me thank you, there's also a link on there to a page dedicated to just that PSU. It does say a high voltage (3.3v) is PSU off & a low 0v is PSU on. I should be able to check that tomorrow on the bench

i found today the service manual for the mainboard ( i will post the link here tomorrow as dont have it handy) , it says that the protect circuit will flash the front panel led if it detects a short on the supplies & it says the test point will be low if the protect circuit is operating. Well the test point is high at 3.3v so it's not going into protect but the led is still flashing. Again this makes me think it's the main board screwed up. I also notice lookig on Ebay that some of these main boards have heatsinks on the processors & some dont, well this one doesnt have one. Maybe this is why its failed.

Re: Sharp LC-32D12E Standby Light Just Flashing

The protect either detects a microcontroller (firmware) problem or some physical hardware problem. Perhaps even corrupted EEPROM. Could be a bodged firmware update - some people pull power from their TVs while they are updating and they corrupt the firmware. Do wish though they did what Sony do which is still operate the LCD with an "update firmware using USB" screen and you can fix it that way.

The heatsink on Vestel sets is usually a joke - a piece of bendy tape that tends to fall off after the TV is a few years old. Perhaps it's a built in kill switch!

What would be a good idea is if they had the i2C eeprom that you just replaced (as on the Samsungs), i'm getting quite good at changing them these days

There is an eeprom on these sets but it's SMD. Shouldn't be too difficult to replace. I built a programmer for SMD eeproms myself.

Thanks again for your help guys, i tested the PSU on the bench agai & pulled the STBY pin high via a resistor while monitoring the output voltages & they did drop so PSU looks ok. Having problems finding a suitable 17MB61-2 board though, scanned EBAY & the usual spares sites for the last couple of days but few arround. I did find this one on EBAY ,

Problem is its from a Luxsor 40 ", the Sharp is a 32" so not sure if that would matter !

Hi Vince, they probably do but at $70 plus shipping & possible import tax the owner wont pay that. You know what people are like these days, they want It fixing for nothing almost. Still it's cheper than Chas Hyde & Sons who want £277 (inc vat :-) ) .

It is unlikely to matter. You may have to update the panel setting, which is easily doable under Menu 4 - 7 - 2 - 5 (the service menu.)

Actually i have just noticed that the board in the link has a different socket for the panel connector. Mine has the thin flat cable that you push in & then slide teh cover down to lock it & that looks like a lnormal large socket . Have to keep looking !

Ah yeah, then it would be for a different screen.
You may be able to pick up a cheap set with a smashed screen and extract the main board.
