Re: vizio 42" lcd power board issue

You have 5v but no light on the front?
That is not normaly a good sign.

When pressing the power button, check the unknown pins for 3.3v that will be the PS on signal. time consuming, but no manual to go with.

Re: vizio 42" lcd power board issue

ok, been busy and moved and wife had a stay in hospital. now we need a tv to watch so I am back to this visio. I did some checking again and found the service manual for the vizio and it has a troubleshooting section mentioning checking the voltage at f2...finally found where it was located and, much to my surprise (yeah, sure) the f2 surface mount fuse was blown. it has 5.1 volts on one side, but ziltch on the other. Plus a continuity check showed the fuse blown anyway. now, will that stop the vizio light from coming on,,,and,,,stop the furthering of power turning on for the rest of the tv? I am hoping to check radio shack tomorrow to see if they have surface mount fuses to replace this one with. Any other feedback on what I need to do?

I have 2 tvs, need to get one fixed, hopefully I can get more help. here is where I stand with the vizio so far.
I do have 5 vdc at the f2 on the main board, but that fuze is bad. I don't have money to replace it and tried to solder another one on but solder won't take to the fuse...grrr. wanted to solder a short wire to jumper the connection and see what happens. NOTE: I do not have the vizio light on front at all. any thoughts so far. help for a really poor diyer looking for any ideas to get this or my other tv, a dlp samsung. will post for it in another thread. thanks for anything.

Before you solder a fuse in place, measure the resistance from the dead voltage end of the fuse to ground (power OFF!) If it shows several kilo ohms, (assume fuse blew because of surge, not short on board), use a couple of alligator clip jumper wires connected to a replacement fuse. See if this jumpered arrangement changes symptoms. If your resistance measurements show a short, you'll have to find the shorted component on the board.

well, I finally tested the fuse to ground and found it to be dead zero...I guess that is about as shorted as one can get. SO, if anyone wants the tv, make an offer and consider shipping and we will be glad to let you have it. I guess the main board is bad then. I'm just gonna get a ballast for my samsung dlp 3d capable tv instead of this one. thanks for the help all who responded anyway. I appreciate it.

Wait, don't give up yet. If it was my TV I would use alligator clip leads to jump in a 3 amp fuse, that fuse may have blown because of what was going on with your old power supply or while you or previous owner was testing something and the meter probe slipped, even though you measured 0 ohms to ground on one side of the fuse doesn't necessarily mean a short circuit caused the fuse to blow, you may be reading other components in the circuit. look at what this Vizio owner found and did. https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...ain+board+fuse

I'm right at 250 miles from you, I wonder how much the shipping charges alone would be. anyone know how to find out? I guess you would have to go by size and weight.
