Goodmans 26" LCD TV No picture

I have a goodmans TV that is about 7 years old but the other day the picture went however the sound was still going.

I left it on the otherday and it had no picture but sound it was left for about 1 hour and then the picture came on.

I have checked inside and i can't see any bad caps.

It looks like the backlights are on as you can see a glow behind the screen. And if you tap the screen you can see a displacement of light.

    I can't see any image.

    Please help!!

If the backlights are on but no pictures, then more likely the T-CON board may be dead due to blown fuse or not getting voltage from the main board.
Please post good clear pictures of the back side of the TV so we can see how all the boards are hooked up. The T-CON board is under the metal shield, it should at the top center of the LCD panel.

Try pressing on this connector while the TV has no picture and see if the picture comes back.

OK, do you hear sound when it has no picture, or does it only come back after the picture appears?

The sound is always on even when the screen is blank.

OK, can you get a top down shot of the main board? That is the board with the video inputs on it. If possible, don't take it from an angle, and try taking it in daylight (on a window ledge is a good place to try.) I will highlight some tests to make. Also, what is the model number/code of the TV?

I will hopefully get some better pictures up tommorow when its light outside.

I might take the TV outside.

Hi James, good luck with this. I have exactly the same issue with my bush 27" LCD tv. Sound but no picture, screen glows on pressure. Mine used to work when I gave it a good thump before turning on sometimes? But not any more

On mine there are 2 capacitors that are slightly bulging on the top, so it may be that for me, but how I came across this forum is searching for the pico fuse on the t-con. Now, I've never changed a capacitor in my life, and never even heard of a pico fuse(or a t-con board for that matter) but I would live to fix it for a few pennies if I can.

                      Best of luck

                        Same as yours I think?

I went back to it this morning to have another look at it and ran my finger over the caps and found a very slight bulge in one of the caps. I have ordered a replacement which should be here tommorow.

                          Hopefully that will fix it.

                          Have you fixed yours?

I looked on ebay and found all 3 boards for £20.

Guess what! I've only gone and blummin' done it!
Bought 2 1000uf 16v capacitors at 39p each from maplins, got the soldering iron out, and 30 mins later the time came to fire it up. Flicked the power switch expecting a bang/flash but all I got was a fully working telly!
First bit of electronics I've ever done! 78p and I feel I've saved £250!almost worth that in satisfaction!
The only slight concern I have is the old caps had GF 105 deg C on them, the new ones have 77deg c on them?
Is this still ok? Tv blasting out as I type so all good for now !
Yippee - I'm one happy chappy!

Those caps won't last (maplin sell crap caps) - they'll be fine for a couple of months, maybe a year... When it fails again, use some better ones like Panasonic FC/FM/FR, they are about 25p each.

                                    1) Those new caps at 77C will die shortly. See PCBONEZ explain the affects of temperature on a cap

I doubt they are 77°C, as it's not a standard temperature. Maplin sells mostly 85°C caps. One or two 105°C caps from "NIC" components - but no idea on long term reliability there with them. For some reason they list 1000uF 35V as "motherboard" caps.

See my original post mate, pretty sure it's the same board, and yes, surface mount.

To everyone else- thanks for pi55ing on my fire! Tv is working right now, and if it dies at least I know where to look and to replace with better caps
These are the first caps I've bought in my life, and the first tv I've fixed so I'm still chuffed- so there lol!
