Samsung LNT4069FX/XAA Picture but no sound

Hi - I'm brand new to this forum and looking for advice on a problem where I have a picture with no sound.

I believe there was some sort of lightning 'event' at my home today, as some of the surge protectors were tripped and one of the breakers in my home breaker box was tripped too. There were storms in the area, but I was not home when they passed, so didn't actually observe anything.

My Samsung LNT4069FX/XAA (about 6? years old) displays video from multiple sources just fine. But there is no audio - not from the source plugged in to Directv, nor from the one plugged in to my XBOX. (I don't use any downline amps, etc - just the built-in sound) I tried plugging in some headphones to what i believed was the 3.5mm audio output in the back, and no sound from there either.

(I tested both peripheral devices plugged into another TV and did get sound from that one)

I'm not experienced with using multi-meters or any other electrical integrity/conductivity testing tools/methods, but I'm a reasonably smart guy and would consider investing in something like that if it could lead to fixing this problem rather than buying a new TV.

Where should I start?


Also - sort of related - if I can't fix this audio problem, isn't it likely that I could feed my HDMI from DIRECTV->SS AMP->TV, and just rely on that amp and speakers for audio?

First try the simple factory reset from service menu:

- TV in standby
- On remote: INFO, MENU, MUTE, POWER
- TV should power up
- Select "Reset" or "Factory Reset" - it may be hidden under the "Adjust" menu. Careful not to touch anything else for now.
- After selecting reset, TV should turn off - if not turn it off.
- Then turn it on again.
- Perform the first time install again, and see if sound works now.

Does it have RCA White and Red labeled with audio line out, see if you can get any sound there. You can use Powered PC speakers system, but you will need mini- stereo (3.5mm) female to male RCA plugs if your PC speaker system has only 3.3mm male plug for line input.
Also check on screen user menu setup to see if the speakers is set to ON.

Thanks very much for the quick and helpful responses.

My problem persists.

Attempt to reset:The remote key sequence for accessing the reset option did not work. but I found another one online that did. It was something like Mute 1 8 2 and then power. I found the reset option. Selected it. Turned unit off. Turned back on. Went through initial setup - time, date, etc. Still no sound

RCA output. I tried this too, I have an RCA - 3.5 adapter already, but didn't get any sound from the devices to which I connected that either. I'm pretty sure something is messed up inside.

I've taken some pictures and attached them. I will gladly take better ones of specific areas if that would help. Any suggestions on what my next steps should be?

From the image on the website - it looks exactly like the one in my TV.


The only thing is... the one on shopjimmy has a different model number than the one actually inside my TV.
the one in my TV has this code:
BN41-0090#A
(the # is a number/letter that I cannot make out on the board - it's obscured)

You need to match the numbers on the bar code sticker.

It seems this might be your only option since your not getting output at the rca jack too. The only other thing i could suggest would be if your using a box (dish/cable), output the audio from it via optical to a surrond sound unit.

The troubleshoot down to component level on this board will take a lot of research on Identifying which IC's are for the sound processing, the service manual will be needed also. Even if you find bad IC, do you have the right tools to do surface mounted repair. I done many repair but sometime I will replace the board due to time restriction.
You can contact Jimmy to verify what you have also.

I had a samsung with the same problem. Even the optical didn't work. The main board fixed it.
