Oh okay let me see if I can get some air blowing in there. Let's see if that's the problem. If it's not how can I know it's the power board or the main board?

Tried blowing air around, but didn't make a difference. Where exactly should I be aiming the air, I can take a picture of the TV if that helps. Also, are you guys sure that it can't be that capacitor I first took a picture of? Let me know. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it's not the caps - Samwhas almost always bulge when bad - could still be worth replacing all the caps once it's fixed, because I pulled about 8 Samwha's from the smaller brother of this TV, the 42PC1D.

The air - needs to go under the main PCB (where video inputs are) - should see a small board - but a malfunctioning temperature sensor might not report good temperatures anyway - from what I remember there is a 4-bit temperature indicator on the control board and it's not supposed to show all LEDs lit only 3/4.

just tried blowing air under there from both sides, still no joy =[

where's that LED you're talking about?

On the PDP logic board. :/

err I think i see a spot where there are 4 LEDs. Only one lights up and it's green. There's another LED right near it which starts sorta flashing before the TV goes out. Am I looking at the right thing?

Possibly - can't be sure as only looked at 42" version, it may be different.

Well I need to get it fixed before school coming up less than two weeks from now. Is there anyway to pinpoint which board is causing the issue. I can get the main board and power board off eBay and return the one I don't need. However, could it be the board where all the inputs come in? Please let me know. Thanks

The board with the inputs is the main board. There may also be a separate "AV board" with additional inputs, at least there is on the UK version, cannot be sure about US version. Have you tried to see if a dimmer picture will make the set run longer? This would lower temperatures quite a bit. If so, it could be a cold joint.

so what's that board? should that board be okay or could that also be bad. I can't run the TV long enough to dim it so can't test that. I know its probably something simple, but I am going away and need to get this thing fixed! Again, any help on pinpointing which board is bad would be greatly appreciated. THanks!

If it displays no signal and still shuts down, it sounds pretty bad - if you flash up a menu using the buttons on the unit does it shut down really quickly? This TV should also have a white screen option in the menu if you can access it easily, it is buried under a few sub menus.

No, the antenna in and component inputs work and I get a signal with video and sound for a brief period of time. I'll try seeing if I can get it to stay on long enough for a white screen in 10 minutes. Let me know if there's anything else I should do. THanks

Well I figured something out. The TV doesn't shut off when the DVD player isn't hooked up... so I was able to go through the menu easily, BUT didn't find any white out option. Anyway, now that I know how to keep the TV on, what could be the problem. I am about to try with HDMI and see if the same problem exists. Let me know. Thanks...

Okay so I ripped out that board you guys were talking about and a number I got off the board is 68709M0734b. So I know I've been bouncing around a lot, but this sums up most of it.

TV shuts off after a short period of time when there is a active signal.
The TV didn't turn off by itself for over an hour when there was no active signal.
There doesn't seem to be any bad caps on the power board.
Creating a bridge as mentioned earlier on the power board did not fix the problem.
I still have no idea which board is causing the problem!

Let me know if you guys need any more information. Thanks

I didn't realise it didn't shut down with no active signal. If you press MENU with no active signal (to get up the control panel) does it shut down quicker?

Do you have a HDMI source? It could be a firmware bug causing it to crash with some video inputs.

Hdmi clicks right off as well... coax stays on for a bit then does the same...

If you can now get the menu to stay on can you find a factory reset option?
