My issue is similar to the thread https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21752 but not the same, and I didn't want to hijack it so I made my own thread.
I am looking at a friends DP42848. When turning on the unit it will display picture for a second or two and then go black.
I first tried doing a factory reset, aka holding Vol- while powering on the tv. When I did this, instead of being static when it showed the screen it was all blue and still powered off. I pushed the power button again after it powered off to turn it back on and the unit stayed on.
I power cycled the unit several times and it worked fine every time, however had humming coming from the bulbs for the first 20 seconds or so until it got warm, then the humming goes away.
I tried letting the TV on using different inputs for several hours and it worked fine, turned the unit off and let it cool down for 6 or so hours. Turned it back on and still worked fine. I took the tv back to my friends figuring it just needed a reset and was fine now as I couldn't get the issue to resurface.
Within the day he had the same issue with it getting the 2 seconds to black.
I have the TV at my house again and first thing I did was to do another reset with vol-. Same result, it 2 second to blacked but with a blue screen instead of static. Then when powered back on worked perfectly fine.
I've now had the unit for almost a week. I've power cycled it probably 100+ times and works every time. I've let it play for hours then tried power cycling and worked. I've let it play for hours, let it cool then power cycled and it worked. Left it unplugged completely for several hours then plugged it back in and it works fine. I cannot get the issue to resurface to do more testing.
So now to my questions.
I have it plugged direct into a wall outlet, while I know he uses a rather old surge protector. Is it possible his surge protector is sending a bad charge and its being stored in the unit until it's reset?
The only other thing I can think of that would cause this would be if the caps are starting to go bad? But I'm not even sure if this would cause the issue.
I have tried wiggling all wires and connectors while the unit is on, and while it is off tring to see if its a loose connection and still haven't had a problem.
Should I replace the caps on the inverter boards and power board, or simply have him plug direct to a wall outlet for a while? Or what else could be tried/tested while itβs working without the issue?
I assume there is something with the bulbs/wiring/inverter boards since they hum until warm, but Don't know that I can test anything while it's working?
My wife is currently out of town with our camera, she should be back later tonight and I will be able to post pictures then if needed.
Thanks for any help/ideas,
Darryl
