Re: vx37l no picture no sound

I had to have the local tv repairman solder in the new regulator and he said i probably didnt need the ceramic cap and told me to try it without it. I dont see any interferance and the picture looks great. He also replace the wire with the 2 ferrite beads and replaced a bulging cap on a board for a 19" westinghouse and charged me $30. bucks and now i have 2 working tv's. I tryed to do the soldering but being a total rookie i couldnt get the solder to stick to the board. i touch the solder to the tip and the solder forms a ball on the end of the solder itself.
Today i picked up a 32" westinghouse that has sound and image but the screen is black and a 32" dynex that works but if i move the tv the screen will change to vertical lines so i will be scouring this site for info. and maybe asking for advice.

That kinda sounds like the solder you've got doesn't have a flux/rosin core, or you're using RoHS compliant (leadfree) solder with a very low wattage iron (doesn't get hot enough)

The guy a radio shack gave me lead free .032 diameter 96/4 silver bearing solder and i have a weller 60 watt iron but i'm thinking of getting a solder/rework station off of ebay sometime soon.

I would never use lead free solder in any of my repair, if you have Weller soldering station, you can get 800 degree tip instead of the 700 degree as supplied with the iron.

Re: vx37l no picture no sound

Thanks Budm, Thats the advice i like to get. I live in a town of 18,000 and so the local resources are limited. I found this solder iron at home depot and i will now get some lead solder. I am a total rookie but if i can get properly equipped it would eliminate alot of frustration.
