does anybody know where I can find a full set of prints for a vx42l. I have found plenty of partial service manuals. All are missing about 4 chapters and the index, which is supposed to have the schematics and component list. I even contacted Vizio and got no help. Thanks, Mike T

Re: vizio gone bad
Hi I have had aquick look and the ones I saw do not have the power supply in
was that what you were wanting? It is often missing. If you were to say what the problem is we may be able to help.
Please change your thread title if you can , to quote the model number.Last edited by selldoor; 04-16-2012, 02:19 AM.Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

Re: vizio gone bad
Most vizio models posted are missing the middle chapters which are mostly crap on menus and settings.
But i think elektrotanya.com has the full manuals. I dont think vizio ever includes the power supply drawings in the manuals.Fixed so far 12 lcd's , 1 plasmas, 5 monitors, 0 dlp's (plan to keep the dlps at 0). and 3 atx power supplies, and 2 motherboards.Comment

Re: vizio gone bad
Thanks for the replies, My problem isn't the power supply,(for a change). I have all the voltages at all of the connectors. It turns on and I get the ccfl's lit, but no video or sound.I've replaced two of the ics and am getting ready to order some questionable components. It sure would be easier with some schematics to go over.Comment

Welcome to the forum-
We can help a lot more if you please post good clear pictures of the whole chassis, and then pictures of each board, front and back and close up of connectors, (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.
Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

Re: vizio gone bad
I just fixed this exact model tv on moday. Check U33 on the mainboard. Its a voltage regulator. Verify that you are getting 3.3v output. It should be 5v in and 3.3v out. My set was only putting out 2v and i was getting no video or audio. I've read that this particular part fails in this tv.Comment

Re: vizio gone bad
thanks for the input. Something about myself, I've been fiddling around electronics for a lot of years, but since I retired about 6 years ago, did I really get into troubleshooting. I love it! I've got a lot of equipment (albeit mostly older stuff). I've built some meters and power supplies. I can pick up slight differences on circuit boards and components(such as discoloring and heat signatures.) I prefer to work off of schematics, but I don't like to pay for them. I don't have the money. I'm a fix-it man. I can fix just about anything(riding lawnmowers, heat guns and cars) and I enjoy it. My occupation was electrician, but my hobby was always electronics.
Getting back to my problem, I found some funky voltages on U7,U9,and U6 and I destroyed a couple of caps while getting them out of the way. When the parts come in I'll let you know how it turned out. Oh, I did have a blown microfuse on the video board, but didn't find anything else. these boards are the toughest when trying to unsolder components. Thanks again for the help. Also I'm having a terrible time navigating this site. I might need some help with that, as well as my typing.Comment

Re: vizio gone bad
Vizios, for whatever reason, seem to be plagued with bad voltage regulators on the main/logic board. Either they got a bad batch, underspecified them, went with the lowest cost supplier, and/or there is some other fundamental design problem. No other brand seems to have this many problems with voltage regulators.--- begin sig file ---
If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.
We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by DXseekerMOI picked up this Vizio E400i-B2 with no stand-by light and diagnosed it with missing stand-by voltage. I found a Power Supply at ShopJimmy, installed it but it didn't work properly. SJ refunded the transaction and did not ask me to send the board back.
So I took some voltage readings upon the original board. Here's what I found:
Main caps have 169.9v
AC detect voltage is 1.3v
None of the MOSFETS appear to be short.
The opto (IC106) that appears to have something to do with stand-by voltage has 3.0 volts on terminal 1... -
by ugamazingBoard had no history of liquid; unsure of drop history, but no signs of damage of any kind worth noting.
Charger sitting at 5v/0a. PPBUS is at 1.9v-0.9v steady cycle (peaks, drains, loops). Confirmed CHGR_EN_MVR is missing, but DCIN was reaching ISL just fine, so replaced ISL--no change at all. Confirmed pp3v8_aon is also missing--and being unsure *exactly* which signal appears first (or if they are simultaneous), I inspected PMU/U8100 area and found no shorts, but also found PP3V8_AON_MPMU_ISNS_VIN missing (not shorted). Replaced U8100 just in case (have had them fail in weird ways),... -
by jprezaHi everyone,
I recently acquired this card from a seller who was selling a PowerMac G5 for parts. He mentioned that the video card was probably broken too.
Upon closer inspection, I can tell the reason why it won't work: it's missing a bunch of CAPS! (it's also missing an inductor - 1.0uH).
It's a nice card as it's one of the few AGP cards that will support 2560 x 1600 resolution on a PowerMac G5 using a 30" Cinema Display.
Looking at the card, it appears to be missing the following:
1x 1.0uH inductor - orange square
