    Sanyo HT30744 Green Screen

Picked this TV up from Goodwill a few months ago. A couple hours ago the screens tint skewed green. I've tried adjusting colors thru the menu with the remote but it doesn't really change much.

The flesh tone is decidedly green. I'll attch a couple pic's but they may not show the full extent. Watching NCIS right now and they look like ET...

Fixed. Internet search revealed it's a common problem.

        Problem with Sanyo HT30744 TV

        Green screen

My 30" Sanyo HT30744 periodically goes green. Sometimes I can turn it off and on and it goes back to normal colours but sometimes not. What is the solution? How much does this tv weigh?

Not really sure how much the tv weighs, but I know it is a bunch. I have 2 of these t.v.s. One I bought at Wal-mart and after about 6 months it started doing this green screen also. I would normally give the side of the tv a good wack and it would go back to normal for awhile. The other tv I bought from my neighbor who was moving for $25. The problem with this one was the "no picture but I have sound". If I wacked this one I could get the picture to come back on for a while, but it would go out again. Well just the other day I took the back off the "no picture" tv and was looking around. I noticed that the circuit board that is attached to the picture tube was loose. I pushed it back down on the tube and put it back together and the picture has been fine since. So I thought I would check the one with "green screen" issues and sure enough that circuit board was loose also. Pushed that one all the way back down and have not had any issues with that tv either. Hopefully that fixed my problem, I guess time will tell. Maybe it will fix yours also.

        .1.

I too had the same problem where my HT30744 TV would lose its color. My mom's HT32744 would have the same problem too. They both are refurbished models bought at Value City Dept store. If I gave the cabinet a good hit it would mostly fix the color, but it could also make the picture go fuzzy too, a clear sign of just a loose connection somewhere.

So after my wife telling me she was sick of this almost 2 year problem and she was going to buy a new TV on the weekend, I figured I had nothing to lose. So I took the rear cabinet off, unseated the card mounted on the picture tube, applied a little dielectric grease on the connector on the card and reseated the card, removed, re-greased and reattached the card. I have had no problem with either my or mom's which I did the same to since! This is an easy fix that anyone can do. The hardest part is moving the TV and reassembling the rear cabinet. Do not pull the cabinet back out more than you have to, to ease the reassembly of it.

The board in question doesn't have any type of latching system...it plugs directly on the rear of the picture tube with a round 8-10 pin connector. Even when fully seated it's pretty wobbly. Piss poor design IMO. Great picture though when working correctly! Cheap too! I should have snapped a picture while I had it apart. My bad.

You may have bad solder joints on the board on the neck of the CRT. You can try looking at them with magnifier glass or just re-solder them all.

              Re: Sanyo HT30744 Green Screen

after resolder, retension the connectors on circuit board side so they have a bit of pressure on the CRT's pins, dielectric grease helps too in case it does come loose a bit it can't arc. Also may want to rig someway to relieve some pressure on the harness/cir cuit board assembly it self so the whole weight is not depending on the CRT pins to hold it up , putting the rear cover back on can sometimes knock the wires around. I usually look for some way to tie wrap(not super tight) the harness onto the CRT- but be careful, there is enough voltage in a CRt TV to kill you as well or send you across the floor, watch where you touch!!

                Re: Sanyo HT30744 Green Screen

It was fine this morning but only on for about 10 minutes. Turned on this evening and was OK for about 25 minutes.

The Hulk is back...don't have my tools here now to do anything tonight. Will bring some home tomorrow. Think I have some dielectric grease in my toolbox. I didn't even disconnect the board the last time to check it very closely.

Will do better next time...and snap a pic or 30...

                As I'm proof-reading this it fixed itself...WFT? It's haunted!!!!!

I use SilIcone RTV to tack down the female connector on the board to the neck of the CRT.
