Worth the Trouble to sell 42" Plasma screen on Ebay??

Is it worth the trouble trying to sell a 42" plasma screen on Ebay?

I would think the shipping would be difficult, it being so fragile,
and I saw maybe one Ebay posting, and that was for local pick up only!

Just the screen? Or rather the whole set?

    Make/Model/Age?

    Functioning?

      Just the screen.

From a Magnavox, 42MF231D/37, from the year 2006.

Functions very well. In excellent shape.

      I'm in Tucson, AZ.

I'd prefer it if someone could pick it up......

I have one too...I know it needs new buffers and the X sustain repaired...afraid to spend the bucks on those parts/repairs as it may also have other issues. Already have too much in it...

I know what you mean. After you plunk down $150
on a new set of buffers, plus another $26 on MOSFETS,
de-solder braid, and Arctic thermal epoxy, plus untold hours
of research, and the thing still doesn't work right, it's a bit
disheartening. Sometimes you have to cut your losses
before you gamble more money away.

The buffer boards are the weakest link in the chain, and the
Ebay sellers know it, so they are quite pricey. I even considered
getting a hot air rework station just to re-install the chips, but
if you replace one, you should replace all 6, and at $10 a pop, it
          gets expensive once again.

You said you "already have too much in it..." What did you spend
          on yours?

I've already had quite a few "views" on Ebay for my
          S42AX-YD01 panel! Hope springs eternal!

$60.00 for the TV with no base/cord/remote, $52.00 for power supply
and stupidly bought a base for another $50.00 before the PS got here...why didn't I buy a wall mount? That would eventually be useful?

So total loss to this point=$162.00 plus probably 100 + hours of research/testing...

I decided I wasn't going to mess with repairing the sustain myself when Copell TV will do it for $55.00.

Need to list some of the parts on ebay. Plus I have a Vizio VU42LFHDTV10A Prod 8-07 that has a broken screen. Already pulled it all apart. I did turn it on and let it run for a couple hours to make sure the boards worked before the tear-down.

So you spent $162, and you didn't get new buffers?

Are the old ones still working?

Yes, I was amazed how much people buy TV stand bases for
on Ebay....often $50-90. Hopefully someone will buy mine!

You have to tell people the truth about the gamble you are taking
when you purchase a broken set from them. You can easily plunk
down a couple of hundred, and still not fix it properly. This is all
exacerbated by the fact that proper schematics are proprietary
trade secrets, so the repair is like walking through a maze in the dark!
Then you are left with a $200 monster paper weight. If you explain
the risk like this, they'll often take $20 for it, or like many of the posters
here, they'll just give it to you, and thank you for clearing some space for them.

              Yeah, sell it for parts.....

Both X buffers are shorted, Sustain has a shorted chip and probably a couple mosfets. When Coppel TV dropped his sustain repair price from $75 to $55 recently, I considered fixing it. But that's another $200.00 in a TV that may need more boards or even have a bad panel.

                It's junk.

Need to sell the PS & base and give the rest to a local TV repair shop.

                  It's all a learning experience.

I paid $20 for my Insignia NS-32LCD, and repaired
it with $18 in parts, and about 1 hour or so of
soldering and research. Phenomenally easy, and
                  probably phenomenally rare.

You gonna look on Ebay for a replacement screen
for your Vizio? There isn't much on your
model at the moment, but you never know when
someone will post something you need.....

Re: Worth the Trouble to sell 42" Plasma screen on Ebay??

The only plasma tvs I buy on ebay are the old phillips/samsung fd9954 and pioneer.

They must be shipped in foam or they will show up broken.

Nobody is buying an l/g panel for a vizio.

A new 1080p 50"plasma tv is 499.00 where I live and yes they are junk but they are new.

I can still sell one used for about 250.00 (2006 and newer).

This is just a hobby now.

I have been thinking of switching over to the dark side. (computer tablets and ipods)

Not a bad idea if you have the dexterity. Let's face it, with 23" wide screen monitors selling for under $100, the market for used 17" and 19" monitors is very limited. You have already noted the demise of the more lucrative TV niche.

Heck, with the Kimble Fire selling for $200, the tablet niche is under pressure.

I can still pick up 23" lcd for under 50.00 (includes shipping) not working. I sell them repaired for 80.00 to 100.00 dollars.

I have most of the parts to repair them. (caps mostly)

Most even have hdmi inputs and digital tuners now.

I am not looking forward to the small tablets but I enjoy the learning part.
