the cap looks to be a Capacitance 22uF
    Voltage Rating 16V
    Tolerance ±20%

I just order some from digikey.

Re: Lg 42" plasma model p2pc3d-ud

Hum dumb question but from the picture below, can I hook up 5v to the 5v on the board somehow to program the board? The 5v in the top corner has four pins in it.
I was thinking of hooking up 4 AAA batteries [1.56=6.24] or 3 AAA batteries [4.68v] and apply it to the 5v plug. Only problem I am having is how to tell which is the + and - in the plug. [I know noob question.]

I have already installed the software for the jig, I just am waiting on the capacitor for the board.

Re: Lg 42" plasma model p2pc3d-ud

I tried to program the board with the capacitor still missing, it seemed to program it. I got the 3 light with the 4 AAA batteries connected to it. [5.16V]
Only thing unusual was model of the board is two models.

Below is the version of the board

        Model version 42V8&X3

New version 42X3_3DCS4 I installed this one..wonder if this is ok? Did not show an error, but wonder if I should have tried to load a 42V8 file?
42V8_4CS01 I can try this one later.

I will not know if this worked until I get the capacitor installed.
        Any comments will be welcomed.

42V8 and 42X3 are two different LG plasma panels. The 42PC3D series of TVs use the 43X3 panel.

I glanced at the instructions for the programming jig, it specifically mentioned that 5V had to be hooked to the board. Because of the design, you probably can get by with using three batteries in series; I have a bench supply that I would have used, In the absence of a bench supply, the red (+5V) and black (Gnd) leads of the drive connectors on any PC, AT, mini-tower or ATX power supply make a good 5 volt supply.

AT or ATX power supply is a great idea.
I wonder which version I should use for the firmware upgrade.
I noticed on the chip it has 42X33DN02A.
I will try the 42X3 file first.
            Thanks for comments Bill

If you look at the plasma panel you will find a label that starts with 42X3. To me that is a firm indication you should be using the 42X3 file.

Bill I am going by the model number, just a little confused why the logic board has different information. The attachment is what the plasma mal discharge pdf says to go by.

I attached also a picture of my board. I guess the board can be programmed for either panels. Since mine is a 42x3 I will be using it.

Exactly the conclusion I came to. For what it's worth, I've got an LG quick reference handbook. It shows the V series of panel was up to 42V7, while the 42X3 was the latest in the X series. I wouldn't be surprised to discover a later version of the handbook would show the 42V8 panel.

Well Bill the red sparkles are gone. I flashed the original logic board that I removed and replaced the cap on. I bought an extra just in case I programmed it wrong. So far so good, no red sparkles, I have not figured out yet the best adjustments on making the screen look perfect yet.
I will program the other board with the latest firmware too if anyone would like to purchase it.

                    Thanks Barry

I also adjusted all the setting to what was on the back of the panel. I do notice that the contrast is so what blurrier than before. I wonder if something on they y-sustain needs tweaking just a hair? Oh well red sparkles are gone.

Hum I might try the other board I programmed to make sure its not the board that I soldered a cap on.

Hi under the ez-adjustment I found an option for sub brightness and contrast. Will this adjust the sharpness on the tv or is it best to leave it well enough alone.

                        Thanks

Record the present values, see if changing them helps; if it doesn't, return them to the original values.

Thanks Bill seems to make the menu screen clearer and sharper. Hum. Picture stays the same.
I haven't got around to putting the other logic board back in to see if I might have messed up on the capacitor installation.

                            Thanks Bill

Searching google to see if I can find some information on the ez menu.

Tweaking this tv is overrated. After doing some minor tweaks, the tv cut off and I though I blew the z-sustain board. I adjusted all the voltages back to what the back cover calls for and tv is back up and running.

TV looks good. Learned something, if it is not broke, don't break it.

                                :\

I am wondering if its possible to buy the jig off you or for me to send you my board for re-programming.

I had a rt-42px11 with a blown IPM on the YSUS board. Replaced the board and now I have a bad case of the green sparkles.

Hi muskin, Bill pointed me in your direction after a post on usenet. Do you still have the programming jig. I'm trying to remove maldischarge on a 42V7 display and have already recapped the YSUS and done a full setup as per the LG manual and the PDP label. I notice you are the other side of the Atlantic

I would like to apply the maldischarge ROM and see if it cures the fault. In all other aspects the display is great. The TV does however have a main board issue where only the digital inputs (HDMI etc.) give a good picture (analogue signals are showing only saturated colour with low brightness/contrast).

Is there any way of doing this without the jig? Could the flash ROM be programmed directly?

How much would you charge to flash the control board for me (if you still have the jig?). The thing I want to do is weigh up the cost of a flash, control board (with updated software) or scrapping the TV for parts.

Read this thread with great interest, seems you may have had the same problem, did it cure it completely?

OK I'm getting in quite deep on this now, I have the BIN file I need, I'm now looking at the actual flash memory i.c itself. I've identified the device type and am trying to find a very cheap way of programming it, I'm away from home right now and forgot to take the number off the chip. I have a rough idea though. Never programmed a chip before (other than computer BIOS through the vendor's programs). I might screw this up totally, but maybe I'll learn something.

I can buy a programmer on ebay (not convinced it will be much good), or I can try and find a schematic and build something that will hook up to a PC. Looks like I may have to remove the chip to program it though, not sure, and it might have some protection code that prevents access. I must be mad.....someone save me

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
                                            • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

I happened several times, in the search for help from the web, to consult this very interesting forum.

                                            Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.
