Vizio GV47L - I have sound and backlight, but no picture

    Hi!

    I have a Vizio GV47L FHDTV20A.

It powers on fine, all the buttons on the fron seem to work, but there's no picture. The backlight is on and looks good and everything seems fine visually. There's just no picture.

The video signal isn't making it to the screen. The menu doesn't come up on the screen, etc.

It works, just nothing on the screen. So, what do you think? I think I've narrowed it down to two boards... either the large main board or the smaller LCD control board. On visual inspection they all look fine. I don't see anything out of the ordinary. I continuity tested every fuse I could find.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

more than likely it's the inverter(s). Some have 1, some have 2

Good day celebrating the holiday? Reread the third line of the first post.

richiewoo, I'd order the tcon; they are available for a lot less money and most main board failures also lose sound.

For a number of reasons, both health and personal, I will no longer be active on this board. Any PMs asking for assistance will be ignored.

        Tri-State Module has a possible match for $18.95 +shipping:

        http://www.tristatemodule.com/p-3136...lcd-logic.aspx

Searching around and cross-referencing some of these numbers I'm finding, it appears you may have your work cut out for you:

You should definitely do a thorough job of searching and cross-referencing part numbers & model numbers to make sure you're buying the right board, as I am finding certain conflicting info on different sites. Looks like someone with dyslexia may have been entering numbers into their retail database and others may have picked up on the erroneous #s.

Look up images of the board and look for number matches with version numbers/codes printed on the PCB, etc. Use the images to narrow down the ACTUAL board # you're looking for, then begin searching the best price.

Do your due dilligence, as you don't want to end up buying the wrong board!

          I appreciate all your responses!

I just wanted to make sure I was heading in the right direction.

I narrowed it down to either the main or LCD controller boards, but like you said, Bill, I probably wouldn't have sound if it was the main...

I'll pull that board and ensure I get all the numbers off of it. It's no fun ordering the wrong one!

I wish there was a bad part that I could actually see! ! Probably a micro cap went. After I pull that board, I'll give it a real good once over with my meter.

          Thanks!!

There are most likely one or more SMD fuses on that board. They'll be labeled with F #s. Usually located near where the LVDS cable plugs in. Others here can help you further on that.

One thing you can try. Disconnect the LVDS cable just slightly [not fully] and fiddle with the connection, this will stimulate the pins on the connector and should cause some random patterns to appear. If any lines or pixels appear, the t-con is probably good and the main board is probably at fault.

UPDATE _ FIXED Re: Vizio GV47L - I have sound and backlight, but no picture

                  Hi guys!

Sorry for the delay with getting back to this post.

                  It was the TCON board.

I was able to find one on eBay for $15 shipped. I replaced it and she fired right up!

I love it when it's cheap!

Thanks again for all your help, I really appreciate it!
