    Y-SUS / ZSUS cooperation question

    Hi all!
Could someone tell how Y-SUS outputs and Z-SUS outputs generally are electrically connected in the panel.
I mean, how does the Y and Z sustain boards work together.
I hope the question is understandable.
And how likely is a failure in one of the IPM's on either board to cause damage in the other.

    Cheers!

The Y-sustain (and buffers) address individual horizontal lines; the X drivers address individual vertical lines. The Z-sustain drives all elements simultaneously (or perhaps more correctly, drives an electrode which affects all cells simultaneously). Many plasma training guides explain the process; I won't attempt to explain something I don't understand.

I understand that under rare circumstances a failure of an IPM on one sustain can affect the other. Coppell described one incident in his blog a few years ago.

Thanks Bill, by the way, could you point to some good guide about the plasma technology and operation of the driveboards, that you self find informative.

The following manuals which can be found on Scribd will help, although they are rather outdated. If you search Elektrotanya for the titles you may find them there. Another technique I use is to use Panasonic Plasma Training Manual instead of a model number on Elektrotanya. Of course, substitute whatever brand you are working on - or the manufacturer of the LCD panel.

Aww, crud. I forgot to include the document numbers.

          Scribd 7580885

          Scribd 13287511

          Scribd 19532668

Since Scribd now charges for downloading, it may be more effective to Google these terms, note the titles of the documents, then search Elektrotanya for the documents.
