    Ok. They're fine.

H board is the problem. Glad I found the troubleshooting guide.

Grey screen -> What was wrong? Missed a plug?

          Glad it's fixed!

yea i actually didnt have the tuner plugged in all the way. after i got everything tightened down it was fine..which reminds me could you just change tuner boards in the tv too. there is 3 versions of this tv a 6u a 60u and a 600u and the 600u has a cable card slot. do you think that it would work to swap out that non cable card board for the cable card board or would i then have to change the main board? just thinking dont actually have the boards but can get them.

Re: panasonic th-42px60u power problem no light

You would need to look at each main board for the different models to see.
If each model uses a different number main board, then perhaps no. If all the same, I would say yes.

If you go thru the menus and currently the "Cable Card" option is grayed out, I think you could. The main board is looking for a signal from the tuner board to enable the option.

Regardless, the voltage across the cap is good, so this was a false lead.

Check across the other bridge rectifier, D401 the same way.
DMM probes to the 2 ~ ~ marks for AC voltage and black to - and red to + for DC

Any clicks from the relays when you plug it in?
Leave it unplugged for 30 secs or so then listen when you plug it in.

                EDIT:
                >>all 3 fuses good.<<

                There are 4... perhaps 5 ?
2 cartridge style and 2 can style that are reddish brown.

2 cartridge and 1 can in lower right, 1 can in upper left in between the big caps.

On the backside pics, there is one indicated on the first backside (full) shot to the left of the horizontal slot. The fuse marking shows it horizontal but the wording runs vertical above it --> LF F5AH 250V

Can't see anything under those heatsinks so some side shots would help.
                .
I have a Panasonic TH-42PX60U that has relay RL-403 (Rush On) constantly clicking, red light is off, however at times it will stop clicking and RL-402 (Main ON) will energize, red power light comes on, and the TV will turn on and work fine, i.e. good video and sound.

After a few seconds or sometimes minutes the TV shuts down and RL-403 will commence clicking, (opening and closing), once it stops clicking the red light comes on and the TV will once again come on for a short duration and work fine, until it shuts down again and RL-403 once again starts clicking.

Anyone experience this problem before? Any advice on how to solve this problem? Thanks!

                  No experience.

Perhaps a bad ICL thermistor? Or, maybe a loose connection/bad solder joint?

Even might be a bad power cord.

                  No blink codes, correct?

Re: panasonic th-42px60u power problem no light

                    Toasty,
That is correct no blink codes. I went on vacation and when I got back the power on light was blinking but I did not know about the codes so I powered it down at the surge suppressor and turned it back on.

It came on and worked fine but after a few minutes I heard a popping noise and the TV turned off and I heard relay clicking. I bought the TV new in 2006 so it is about 5 years old.

Could it be a faulty RL-403 relay or what feeds the relay?

Re: panasonic th-42px60u power problem no light

Not likely the relay or it's power circuit. More likely a fault is being detected and the protection circuit is shutting the relay off.

Check the power board and also if the fans are working.

                        Toasty,
Sorry for my late response. The fans are working whenever the relay works properly. I'll look into the power board. Any advice on which components are most likely to fail? Thanks.

You're going to have to locate the source of that popping sound.

With the power disconnected, please, look around the power board for any obvious burns or scorching. Check all the connections too. A loose one could cause these symptoms.

Please remember this is a remote diagnostic. I can't touch, feel, or see the unit so do your best with any pictures (big CLEAR) or descriptions.

                                Unplug the TV.

At the end of the flat white cable under your hand in the 3rd picture in the first set of pics is the DG3 connection. I am not sure if there is a locking mechanism in place on that cable or connector. Some use a clip. Some use a pressure clamp. Be careful and don't pull on it until you look at it carefully.

                                Disconnect connector DG3.

                                Plug the TV in.
Do the relays click after the TV is plugged into the AC line?

                                .
No still no click on mine.

                                  Hi Toasty.
I picked up on an old thread dealing with a Panasonic TH42PA60U with a dead screen and clicking relay problem.
I got to the step of disconnecting H51 only to discover that there was none - only an H53.
                                  At this point I realised I have a TH42PA60A - not U .
The Australian version must be different.
Anyone have a shortcut to the most common solution to this fault?
