More Vizio VW42L Problems - HELP PLEASE!!!

    Hello,

I have a vizio vw42l that I got for free. The guy I got it from said he heard a loud "zap" noise then the screen went black. When the power button is pressed the unit comes on for about 2 seconds then goes black again. I am somewhat of a hack and removed the back cover and visually inspected all of the readily accesible boards and could find nothing obviously wrong. One interesting side note. I powered the unit on with the inverter boards ungrounded and the unit came on and stayed on with a flickering picture. As soon as I grounded either one of the inverters the screen went black again.
    What should check and/or replace?

Thanks in advance for your advice....

sounds like inverter or ccfl issues.

If take a meter and make sure you have good power to the inverter board.

What pins should I test specifically and what voltages am I looking for?

      Thank you again...

There are lots of threads here with this model number. The first thing I'd do is research the known problems and solutions of this set. Just go to search and put in the model number.

I would have to say your problem is one,or both of the inverters. If you look at the part numbers on each inverter, and they are the following,I would either repair,or replace them, and this should fix your TV.Master LG 6632L-0448A Slave LG 6632L-0449A What usually goes wrong is the one,or more of the following, the two capacitors, the IC chip, and the four transistors.I would try replacing the capacitors first. If that doesn't work, and you can't,or don't have the equipment to change the IC,and,or transistors,I would replace the master inverter before the slave.I hope this helps.Thank You very much!

Tyler. Thank you very much for your response. There is nothing obviously wrong with the inverter boards so I think I am just going to replace them both. I read something that boards should be purchased as a set to insure compatibility. Is that a true statement?

And to Dgtech.... I already read all of the forum posts about my set before I posted a question. None of the answers fit my problem....
