quality lcd tv vs chinese knock off

i bought a tv for my car that is one of those flip down tvs for the back seat. i figured all of these tvs are lcd so how different can they be? well i got this one and i cant make heads or tails of much being displayed. all the black and dark colours are all black and run together. most of the colours all bleed and run together and no matter which of the brightness contrast etc settings i adjust make the picture watchable.

what is the difference between a good tv and a bad one? what should i look for in the next one that is a concrete measurement of quality? contrast ratio depends from one manufacturer to another and most just lie anyway brightness etc ? what should i look for?

I haven't had any flip down type LCD's in my car yet but as far as LCD TV's in general, go with Panasonic.

that is why i prefer to buy stuff like that(or at least shop for it) at a car stereo store.

You can tell by picture quality, viewing angle(cheap ones you have to look at then straight on, good ones can be viewed at almost any angle) digital display quality, build guality, fit and finish. If you really look, you will be able to spot the nice unit from the krap regardless of price tags.

alot of cheap car audio stuff is coming out of korea now. I used to fix car amps and cd players, indash dvd stuff bitd and gave up when i started getting "name brand" stuff on my bench that was nothing but rebranded krap.
