Re: Sanyo CE37FD47 LCD No Power

It also looks like your DMM is brand new, have you read the manual? It will explain its use and the correct sockets/values/ranges to use for the different tests you will be doing now you've got the bug

Re: Sanyo CE37FD47 LCD No Power

i purchased it around 6 months ago, i got the manual here, going to read through it.

i have been using the meter mainly for continuity and testing output pins for voltage, testing components is all new to me.

      thanks

OK, what is your mains supply V? Start by checking you have supply V at the plug on the board where your mains lead is connected

No worry, you will soon pick it up. But like i said, research as much as you can, starting with your meter manual

is that red probe to live?
and black probe to ground? like a grounding screw?

Red to Brown wire, black to blue wire, or corresponding pins on plug connected to board. Are you in the UK?

Re: Sanyo CE37FD47 LCD No Power

i placed red to brown and black to blue. probes were standing nicely on there own. i stepped back to watch the meter as i turned the mains on, the dmm went bang??

not good - but at least i was aware of the voltage, i was nowhere near.

                  why would it do that?

WFF??? Ok what setting did you have your meter on? It should have been 600V ~, 1 o'clock position, with the black lead in centre common socket and red lead in right V/ohms/mA socket

yes thats correct, i only changed from 11 o clock (last test on the capacitor) to 1 o clock (this test)

                            strange.

Well that's stumped me??? Is the board in situ on the TV, with all plugs connected to each board, while you are testing?

Your meter blowing up would suggest to me that it was either on the wrong range (resistance?) or the leads were connected incorrectly... or your meter was previously screwed prior to these tests (hence no voltages being detected on 3 boards...)

i though about a faulty meter, but im working on a few other tv's and voltages could be found on them boards, but i will buy a new one today and carry on where i left off.

                                    B&Q here i come.

Yeah but i think you need to start by figuring out what went wrong to cause such a blow up in the first place - if your meter settings were all correct then I would say its almost certain the meter was previously screwed. But when you get your new meter give the manual a good read. I will see you here again when you return

I think the pictures in posts 18 and 29 should be used in a 'How not to measure voltages' post in the 'Test Equipment Usage, Techniques, and Reviews' section.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                            Assuming...

                                            Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...
