Problem with my 60'' Philips DLP.....

    Hi,

I have a Philips DLP 60'', model # 60PL9200D/37..... I had the TV for 2yrs before the problem began.

The problem is that the tv will no longer turn on.... When plugged in the on and off switch throws a code.... The blue light indicator will flash 6 times slow, then 5 times fast... The fan still turns on at first, but then shuts off..

Any help would be much apprecieated....

    Thanks in advance,
    RD1998

Well this may be a rebranded Mitsubishi. This is a CT2.0U RA chassis; the Service Manual is found here. The blinking lights indicate an error 65, which on the chart indicates that is a 'GdeInitCommunicationsFailure'.

      Thank you for your feedback....

Would that mean having to replace the small and main signal board???

I was also told that it was just the lamp that needed to be replaced...
And whats funny, is today when I plugged it in, my lamp indicator was lit up red.... It had never been lit before, it was only throwing the code....

      Thanks again,

I have no idea what that particular message means, other than something isn't communicating with something else. It might be the light engine, it might be the small signal board, it could be a loose cable.

"It only needs a lamp", "The check is in the mail", "Of course I'll respect you in the morning", "After I'm elected I will work to improve your life" and "It was driven by a Grandmother who only used it to go to church on Sunday" all are equally good. Don't trust anyone who uses one of them.

One of the first things to do is check for bulging caps in the power supply, and on all the other boards. The read the troubleshooting section in the service manual.

I love it!!!!! Famous quotes from people so full of S#!T, they leave skid marks every where they go....... Although, I have used one or two of them myself.......

Thanks again plainBill...... It has been in storage for 1.5 years and has dust on the inside and on the boards...... I will clean it out and check all the major players inside.....

          Thanks again,

I did all of thee above i.e. checking the power supply, and the boards for bulging caps ect..... Everything looked normal and everything was still working, power, the fans ect...... Still, the only problem was that the lamp would not light up.... I called Philips and the technician from customer service couldn't really even diagnose my problem, he just gave suggestions...... I went ahead and bought a new lamp from Philips for $100, it arrived with latex gloves, I went to work........ And guess what, we have lift off...... It works now and the picture looks better than ever... I had no idea that the bulb was supposed to have such a nice, consistent iridescent tone to it..... My old bulb did not at all it was clear, and flat....

            Thanks again for your help,

I now have the same issue with the 65 error code with the same model TV. I will say that before this error code the picture was getting very dark and from what I have read on line it pretty much meant the bulb was dying. I've ordered a new bulb and hope to get it soon. For now we'll have to watch our 27" TV...

if inddeed as plain bill stated it is a rebranded mits, run very fast away from it they have more problems than all carters liver pills totaled. i fixed one and never want to see another. every cap in the blooming thing- and i mean every cap was bad.the boards i think are called dm and fmt.

I just said the other day we dont get many dlp queries - obviously another famous saying!!

When you get the bulb and fit it I think you have to go into the service menu
                  and reset the bulb hours.

My bulb looks pretty bad. There's a large dark bubble (Seen at the right side of the bottom of the bulb) and the bulb is actually tilted quite a bit. Probably why the picture was so dark..

I'll have to see if I can find instructions in my service manual on how to reset the bulb hours. Thanks for that info.

If it is an old type? halogen bulb you need to wear rubber gloves when fitting as the oil from fingers can cause damage and I believe overheating.
I dont know from personal experience just something I read .

Some of the bulbs I was looking at came with rubber gloves. If this one doesn't then I've got some I can use.

I can not find anything on resetting the bulb hours on this TV... There's a Convergence section in the menu but the manual doesn't talk about it.

I'm looking at the user manual that came with the TV.

I guess I'll find out today, the bulb is on the Fed Ex truck already out for delivery.

Yeah, my bulb just blew out again. The generic bulbs don't last very long. I guess I'll have to spend the $$$ and buy a proper genuine replacement bulb so it will last a little longer.

Is it possible for you to make a copy of your Philips 60PL9200D/37 service manual for me? Both my service manual and my user manual was lost in my recent move and I can't find them. I only need the service manual because my TV is on the blink, too. I've replaced the bulb and the color wheel but it still doesn't work.

If you can do this, I will be glad to pay you. I've searched online several times for hours trying to find the service manual but every link I find is no good. I checked the Philips website first and they don't have one either. And until I read your post today, I haven't been able to find anyone who has one. Please be so kind as to copy yours for me. I don't have the money to go buy another TV, especially since I've spent so much trying to fix this one. Nor could I get one this big, either. I need mine fixed.

Thank you, take care, and God bless.
