2009 LG 50ps60 Plasma picture problems

    Howdy comrades

I was sitting watching my tv about 2 weeks ago. I heard a "pop" from the tv, then it shut down.

When i went to turn the TV back on, it surprisingly did so. However, the picture now has some horizontal scrolling and is littered with a static like fuzz.

The picture quality looks almost normal in dark scenes. During times where there are bright images shown, the effect is more apparent.

I've downloaded the manuals for the TV and searched around for people who have a similar problem, but i haven't found anything directly beneficial.

I think this is caused by the X board, but i want some seasoned opinions first. Could this be caused by the Y board? TV powers on fine every time and stays on with no signs of trouble, other than picture quality.

The grainy discoloration occurs on all inputs.

I have not been able to find any blown caps. Attached are photos of the picture quality and the internals.

On the power supply board, what manufacturer/series are those capacitors? The brown ones. They look vaguely like KZGs, but I don't know why they'd use them on a power supply....

Took the heat sink off the X board to see if the TCP cables were visually damaged.

Since I heard an audible pop, I'm looking for obvious signs of failure.

So far i haven't found anything unless I'm overlooking something.

        Please advise.

Is it possible that despite the audible pop and the subsequent shut down that this issue can be fixed by the board adjustments?

Please don't post pictures inline. It irritates some people, pi$$es the rest of us off, and causes the thread to be ignored.

The most likely cause is a failure of the Z-Sustain board.

Bill- Repeatedly tried to post pictures via the add attachment button per the almighty FAQ, however it didn't work, citing a security failure.
Sans pictures, i think the thread would have irritated more people and been widely a waste for all.
If a method of picture posting pisses you off, you should reevaluate your life or read through the headlines.

But I thank you for the technical advice

dont worry about it i personally prefer inline pics, but it is considerate to attach them as most non us users have a little slower internet connection, the inline pics show them down.

ive also had issues uploading. Mostly because the images were too big.

If you heard an audible pop, keep looking. You have to find something that has shat itself. Could be a transistor, chip, or even better a cap. Look over every damn cap well. DO you see any with the top bulged or better yet with a rip in the top?

heres what a "for sure" bad cap will look like. They dont always have to look bad to be bad however, but if you heard a pop, and it was a cap, youll see it.

Yet I note the size restrictions and never had a problem uploading pictures.

And you are correct; I have reevaluated my life. I'll refrain from offering you any more advice.

Cadillacman- I've looked over all the boards and I've yet to see a visibly bulging cap. I replaced a few bad caps on my sisters LCD tv a year ago and could definitely tell that they had shat the bed. I'll give it another look tomorrow before getting a replacement Z-board. Thanks for your advice, Cadillac. Hopefully i can trace down the source.

I doubt it was a cap. Since the pop was loud enough for you to hear it was most likely a mosfet or high voltage regulator that shorted out. It would be easy to find with the use of a multimeter.
