i have a Toshiba satellite l305d-s5893 and i have a connector to go from a VGA output (on my laptop) to the s-video on my HD LCD TV, but when i try to connect it won't work? when i hit FN and F5 it shows the computer and it shows i can connect to a CRT television so how can i set it up to connect to an lcd tv?

First of all, using the S-video input will give a very poor picture. All LCD TVs I've seen have a VGA input connector. If yours does, you will get much better results using that input.
If you are determined to use the S-video adapter, hook it up, set your computer to 640 x 480 resolution, switch the output to the VGA connector, and make sure you have selected the proper s-video input on the TV. Your LCD TV will not be expecting to see a 1366 x 720 signal on an S-video input, anothe reason not to use the S-video cable.
