I wish you had continued the previous thread. I hope I mentioned that the recommendation is to replace both Y buffers and the Y-Sustain at the same time. The usual failure sequence is a Y-buffer shorts, blowing the Y-sustain and possibly damaging the other Y buffer.

Re: Y SUS for 42mf231d/37 magnvox plasma
fhorta,
I found it as ebay item number: 160501740414.
I too need some help if anyone can get me jump started (sorry to hijack your thread).
I have the same TV with failed y-lower. The traces on the failed buffer were so bad I could not complete the repair, so have ordered a new board. I've done a lot of research on this and I've got an new lower y buffer on order, my upper y buffer seems to be checking out per the Coppell blog instructions, but not sure about ysus main. I could probably replace the IC and FETs and call it good on the y-sus, but now it seems my TV is exhibiting another symptom. Now when I get no sound, power. I need to check the main power supply board and am aware there are about 4 high voltages I need to check. Does anyone have any documentation on the main power board or know where I can obtain a manual for the 42mf231d/37. Or if you could just point me to where to check the voltages it would get me started.
Thanks,
Tim

The service manual gives very little information on the panel, buffers, power supply, etc because those were supplied by Samsung. Somewhere on the plasma panel you will find the SDI (Samsung Digital Imaging) part number. To cut this short, I believe this is the Samsung S42AX-XD02 panel. Again, search for that part number on Elektrotanya and you will get the service manual for the plasma panel.
Checking voltages is easy. The output connectors on the power supply have the voltage designations labeled. There is a paper label on the plasma panel indicating the proper voltages for that panel.

WARNING!!! Be very careful with the eBay auctions. The Y-Sustain listed in some auctions as for the 42MF231D/37 does NOT match the one in the TV I had. Check both the part numbers and the picture before ordering. The one in the auction listed above is correct.
The picture in the service manual I referenced above does match the TV I had.
Also, read the Coppell TV repair blog carefully. He emphatically suggests you replace both buffers and the Y-Sustain at the same time. My experience matches this.

Name brand 50 inch 1080p plasmas are now $699 CDN. 50 inch 720p plasmas are at the $599 CDN level.
So when paying $350 for a repair, just keep in mind what a new one costs.--- begin sig file ---

LJ41-03439A or a LJ92-01346A
LJ92-01346A is for the 42AX-YD02 panel, also called the W1 panel.
LJ92-01200A is the correct assembly for the 42AX-XD02 panel, also called the HD V4 panel
After checking pictures of both Y sustain board and their buffers, they are definitely not interchangeable. The LJ92-01346A has two wide and 1 narrow connectors to the buffers, the LJ92-01200A has two wide and two narrow.

Re: Y SUS for 42mf231d/37 magnvox plasma
just a quick update: extracted 3 boards. the y main does match part number of y main shown on ebay(pcb code-Lj41-02759a and pba code-Lj92-01200a). all boards say samsung on it.
did resistance tests on buffer boards and lower y board showed .12. the upper y board showed .2. i guess they need to be replaced per coppell resistance readings and results. just curious though about lower buffer board; per coppell, if board was bad, tv would not turn on. my tv always turned on, just no picture. would the .12 resistance still be enough to turn tv on? the way i understand it, reading of ohms' would need to be about 400 to 500 to indicate boards are good.
going to cost about $250 to $270 for both buffers and repaired/replaced y main, as plain bill had mentioned.

One problem with replacing a Y-sustain board is there are several adjustments that must be made. One of then cannot be made without use of an oscilloscope.

thanks plainbill.
so when i get my replaced/repaired y main from coppell, it will not have the adjustments done to it already? or these adjustments must be done when parts are installed on tv? how much would it cost, ball park,to have adjustments done.can one do it himself? i undrstand an oscilloscope would be required. thanks again.

Here's the link for the service manual for the panel. The picture of the panel is on page 12, the adjustment instructions are on page 64.

Your board will be adjusted, of course, for the display model that we have here.
There are different display models that require different board adjustments and the truth is we do not have every possible combination out there.
There's an important note I'd like to point: a lot of people seem to refer to our blog disscussing how to test for a short buffer, but do not seem to realize the updated article on the trio, which is more advanced and also more conclusive.
The most important thing to remember is that a buffer that does NOT show a short is still not guaranteed to be good! In fact, if it;s been working alongside with one that has shorted, it is equally bad.
I won't repeat everything from that second post here, only reiterate the conclusion: IF ONE OF THE BUFFERS GOES BAD YOU BETTER REPLACE BOTH!
Finally, the price considerations mentioned above are completely in-line with my own thinking. I bet Samsung is making much more money from service parts than from the original TVs (even though they were quite expensive at the time)!
