Many dying 6-red blinks Sony FW-55BZ35F; looking for advice

    Hi,

The school where I'm working in AV is having ~25%> failure rate (12 and counting) on 4-5yr old Sony FW-55BZ35F's with a 6-blink LED code and I'm looking for troubleshooting advice/information in the case that there is a reasonable repair path. (e-cycling them is the alternative)

In searching the net for info it seems to indicate it may be the G* board power supply and being this forum has some deep technical roots in this area I'm coming here for the first time to inquire.

Is there anyone who may have a current Sony manual for this model or specific troubleshooting points?

I searched this and other resources and only found older vintage manuals, and while similar basics seem to apply, I am hoping for better direction before committing any action such as pre-emptively purchasing a G181 board.

I am attaching pictures of the display internal boards for reference. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! (Ps I do have tech chops so let me know what I may need to do to gather info)

It's a result of the backlight leds being driven too hard.

All you can do for the ones that have not yet succumbed is to turn down the backlight level and hope for the best.

Thank you both, for the service manual, and for that the backlight should be turned down, I will relay that info to our team.

But in the case of the dead ones, once I run through the flowchart checks, aren't there any specific board or component(s) I could swap out that could recover these from the failure? Or are they just unobtainium or not-worth-it parts..

        Thanks for your time..

Should be simple enough to check, just shine a flashlight on the screen hit menu and check for text or image, if you have image and 6 blinks then it's very likely bad backlight/s, can prolly get the backlight sets from ebay or china, try to use reputable sellers if you do.

What kind of flashlight and what image will it be if the protection from a malfunction immediately works and the TV is completely blocked and there will be no image, no sound ..., this is Sony!

At best you may see the sony sign flash up before it goes into protection mode.
Just find the replacements on ali express and replace all of them.

Right fair enough, it's ALSO the truth that 6 blinks is not always a bad backlight, happened to me more than once.

                    Sony XR-55X90J 5 blinks

                    Hello,

                    I have problem with SONY 55X90J. After several check status is as below;
                    1. Running power board as stand alone:

                    TCON_12V =~ 12.6V
                    EVDD V On Max 24V= 19V.

                    2.
Running power board with TCON as stand alone:

                    Effect as below, attched.

                    3. When bottom LVDS cable is disconnected no blinks, but of course no TCON 12V and EVDD.
"I'm almost sure it's a defective panel, but maybe someone has encountered a similar issue on their screen.

                    Best regards....

Sony XBR-75X940E intermittent 6 blinks error code
                    by GoodCapDude
Hi everyone. First post on Badcaps!

I am trying to fix a Sony 940E from 2017 that either starts normally (and works perfectly until turned off) or goes straight to the 6 blinks error code without showing anything on the screen. It is frustrating to know that it can still work perfectly but is barely usable because of the difficulty starting it up. I am willing to try to short the BL_ERR but I would like to avoid that if possible. Does anyone have a view on this? Thanks a lot....

Sony KD-65A1 Repair – 4 Red Blinks Error
                    by AK_777
                    Hi everyone!
I have a Sony KD-65A1 TV with a fault – 4 red LED blinks. After disassembly and visual inspection, I found that the G76 power board and DKA board had been replaced. It is also possible that TCON was replaced, but I am not sure – there are a few marker marks that could be factory-made.

Based on assumptions, the previous service attempted to solve the issue by replacing potentially faulty components. I decided to investigate further, found a service manual, and figured out a way to power up the power supply unit autonomously and put the OLED panel and...

                    Sony A1e 5-blinks help
                    by jchon
Hi I'm new to trying to repair TVs, but I saw a broken OLED offered for a reasonable price and thought I'd try my hand at it.

I found the service manual, which was critical to know where to probe.
                    https://www.manualslib.com/manual/20...1e-Series.html

With it I was able to determine that my DKA board was bad, when P_ON#1/2 gets enabled REG_12 on the DKA board collapses. I'm assuming one of the downstream regulators has a short, but I couldn't work out which rail/component and replaced the DKA board entirely.

                    Unfortunately the 5-blinks...

                    Sony XBR-65X850D 2 Red Blinks
                    by Nicktronic
                    Hi all,

I have the subject TV and it will work normally sometimes but suddenly go black and give the 2 red blinks blink code. When this happens, I check the power supply board voltages and all I have is the Standby 3.3V and BL_ERR 2.2V. When it's working normally, all power supply board voltages look normal and stable. I've checked the backlights with a tester and they all test good. I've also read that the 2 red blinks is a faulty power supply board, so could it be throwing up an erroneous BL_ERR?

Any Sony experts out there that can help??...
