Hi all, I just want to share the repair of my 60PK550-UA TV set.
The TV set was powering on, just no image. After verification, nothing wrong on the YSus or ZSus boards. Nothing wrong on the main board either.
But I noticed that the LED was not flashing on the Logic Control Board. This is an EBR63450301. The LED is supposed to flash even with all the flat cables disconnected, with only the power cable attached.
All the voltages measured at the electrolytic capacitors on the board were good. From top left to bottom right:
C57: 3.30V
C61: 5.10V
C72: 5.10V
C86: 1.82V
C52: 5.10V
C51: 3.30V
C76: 1.13V
Then I suspected a corrupted flash chip. IC22 is a MX25L3235D-M21-12G. It is a 4MB flash chip plus a 4k bit secured sector (OTP). After reading the chip many times with my eeprom programmer I found that one byte was reading differently from time to time. Most of the time the value of that byte was 0x20, but the other times it was 0x00.
I re-flashed the chip with the content files read for both values. The first file with the 0x20 byte was giving the same result. But the other file with the 0x20 byte made the board come to life. The LED was flashing again.
Once re-installed in the TV set, bingo. Picture is displayed.
I attached to the post the datasheet for IC22, and the good content file to flash to the chip. I've included 3 files. The file without the secured sector, the file for the secured sector itself and the file with both. Pick the one you need.
These files are only for the EBR63450301 Logic Control Board, but the fix can apply to any similar control board using the same PCB (EAX61300301).
Here is a list of the TV sets using the EBR63450301 Logic Control Board:
60PK200
60PK250
60PK540
60PK550
60PK550C
60PK750
60PK950
This is just too bad that this 60in TV set has been killed by a single bad byte on a flash chip on the Logic Control Board. I hope this will help someone out there.
