    Viewsonic 32" lcdtv - should i buy it?

    ok so the technology recycler/computer repair shop i work at got in a viewsonic 32" lcdtv. (not exactly sure of model since im at home at its there.
    i could probably get it for cheap, because even though it works there is one problem. the problem is that if you just give the power button a normal psuh, the power led will blink for a second.
    but if you hould it down for like 10 seconds, then it will llight up (bright), then a few seconds later the led will dim down as the screen turns on. then it works fine (i havnt left it on longer than 2 mins but i think it wil then just stay on. the person who fixes lcds at renew computers (the name of where i work), he said that he says if its ok with the boss i could have it for cheap cu even though he says its probably just a bad startup cap on the power board he doesnt wnna bother with it cuz he is busy with a few other projects right now. so woul it be a wise inveestment to buy it then see if there are obvious blown caps?

    I'd buy it. But depending how cheap "cheap" means.

      Ask if you can open/inspect it first before buying. If it is obviously bad caps, then you may want to go for it.

      If it is not obviously bad caps, then be aware that troubleshooting and repairing LCD and plasma TVs are an order of magnitude more difficult then computer LCD monitors.

      It seems to me that much of the troubleshooting of LCD and plasma TVs are more about board replacements versus component repair (like bad caps or transistor). Additionally, you may be sourcing boards from ebay and dubious sellers.

      In Canada, 2 local vendors had an one day "blowout" sale on Saturday. 50 inch 720p name brand plasmas like Samsung were being sold for $548 CDN (1 year warranty). So just keep that in mind to help make the decision and how much money you spend fixing an old one with no warranty.

          Viewsonic TVs are not highly regarded due to a lack of quality.

          The guy is probably right - capacitor problems. If you can open it up and verify bulging caps $100 is a fair price. If you can't, maybe half that would be safer.

            Ok. But i always thought samsung, lg, and viewsonic were good quality. Then i came here and learned that samsung is bad. But imo viewsonic is good?
            How would a better tv be built differently than a viewsonic (not talking about picture quality)

              beat em up real good on the price.
              its most likely caps.i see a bunch of viewsonic tv's here with bad caps.iirc the only one that was not caps had a cracked panel.
