    2023 TVs are Trash.

Went to Walmart yesterday and looked at the TV section while waiting on the wife. Realized almost half of the TVs had backlights burned out or defective pictures (double images, blurry or pixelated looking)

Vizio had all there TVs with bad backlights. Samsung still has the edgelit failures like the “nu” series and Hisense had the double image on both of there displays.

LGs weren't turned on so I'm assuming they failed already and they were heavily discounted.

Manufacturers should be ashamed. They can't even keep their display models working for the 1 year they're on display.

Should keep all of us busy though. Lol

I am saddened I can't recommend any brand or tv model to anyone except OLEDs, or the most expensive ones.

I always say buy a used one of a model that is known to last more than 1 year, last good Samsungs were the MU series in 2017(!!!), they fail the backlights if driven really hard for years but at least the panel lasts.

Now for LG bottom line it's all been crap for years, panel/backlight failure.

Wish Panasonic still made good stuff.

i wont buy a new one or even pay for a used one they are all crap and plenty are given away for free these days so not even worth repairing broken ones unless its for own use . i have 2 old ones that i have kept running for years without needing much repairs pre led backlight sets . must admit i dont really look at the tv as much as listen to it .

Sounds right, I won't even keep and use a tv made after 2017, don't trust them, I trust my 2014 sharp running less 4 cofs more than I do any new tv...and I think it will last longer.

Meanwhile in the UK we can buy TVs that come with a 6 year warranty as standard.

Something happened in that shop for me, maybe cleaning companies, overvoltages, tv of todays are very fragile, needs special attentions.

i will not judge any brand because of failed LED BL. the blame goes to user when he set the TV one years long on 100% or Dynamic setting. Chinese know this behavior, this why they set in Service menu the real Value at User setting of BL always -15 like Hisense does.

failed Panel or dead EMMC all of them piece of SH°°T

Agree, BIGGEST time waster there is, I only recommend it if you can not get out and do JUST ABOUT anything else. Has contributed in a big way to the epidemic of obesity in the U.S. and many other countries. On the other hand maybe tv and video games are keeping those fat kids off the streets, where they might be doing drugs or getting into or causing other trouble.

yeah have to agree with smdflea but disagree with why he sent it to people who replied, should be more towards the OP and yeah probably this thread should belong in the lounge subforum.

I saw what was removed..... Your tirades & name calling are the reasons, not the context of the discussion. That kind of drivel has never been tolerated in tech threads. I'm actually surprised diif even nibbled your bait, he's normally a bit more refined than that.....but that said; you've threatened to quit BCN plenty of times.... Are you leaving for real this time?

Hello, I have a problem with my Samsung UE48H6410SSXZG with the main board BN41-02156A and the power board BN44-00709A. Everything seemed like this, the TV could no longer be switched on, the standby LED always flashed 5x2 times. Backlight was off and no sound from TV. Also made the flashlight test and there was no picture.

                                          I made the following tests:
                                          1. Disconnected the main board from Power Board = backlight works.
                                          2. Connected the main board and disconnected the T-Con = backlights does not work.

So I ordered a main board from Ebay also BN41-02156A but from...

I get sound and picture when powering on the TV and its stays that EXCEPT that the left half of the screen will dim every few seconds then return to normal while the right side of the screen performs as designed.

Did the soft and hard reset options pulling the plug, using the reet option in the vizio menu to no avail.

I checked the mainboard - found some popped capacitors so replaced it - but that did not change the situation.

I checked the t-con board. It is getting good power. Then I removed one ribbon cable to see if I could isolate...

Hi everyone I have this TV which was dead one day when I tried to turn it on. I've had the cover off and there was just a pulsating/electrical clicking/ticking noise from the PSU. I disconnected the mainboard as sometimes this works to just fire it up with backlights on? That didn't help. Same noise. Then I disconnected the backlight cable from the PSU and the TV came alive. It appeared to respond to the remote and i'm pretty sure it's fully operational when there is no backlight connected.

However, I am in a dilemma.

I tested the backlight outputs with the lights disconnected...

                                          TCL 49S405 double image

LCD displays a 2nd image slighty offset vertically. And multiple pairs of black lines along the bottom. Probably common as google "TCL 49S405 double image" pulls up this ifixit post ( link ) with identical ( nearly, but their fault seems to be on the other half of the panel than mine ) problem without solution.

This one looks to be a more difficult to diagnose because most? of TCON seems integrated ( CSOT BGA on buffer baord) into the left panel edge board ( looking from rear of TV) There are 2 buffer boards for each 1/2 of the screen. Main connects to the left buffer board...

toshiba 65ul2163 dbl no backlights NOT BACKLIGHTS?

Hi this vestel 65in tv had classic no backlights ,so nothing new there!
tested with b/l tester and the b/l seemed to be fine
so investigated psu 17ips72 (on this 65inch there are 3 fets and control iv type DB83630P)
did a thorough check on b/l circuit all ok .
When i tried again with b/l tester all ok .but then when i reinstalled psu all worked fine ,
could there be a component on psu that is causing the protection mode to stop b/l
.maybee causing it to be too sensitive?
it seems to me if the b/l have been on with my tester ,within a couple of minutes...
