    Samsung LN52A550 with HDMI issues

This Samsung TV, does fine with no input connected, but when I place my fire stick in the HDMI, it works briefly then starts making a screaching noise and the screen messes up with vertical lines. sometimes when this happens, it will start power cycling, going thru POST, and still screach and have scrambled picture.

I replaced a bad cap on SMPS board, but the best I can tell, the Power board is with right voltages. Can someone lead me to where I need to look next? main board? Surely seems like it may be the input selector or something, but I don't know what chips that might be on. I have tried to find schematics/parts list, but no joy.

Tell us more about your input.
    1) Does this happen with just the firestick or any other HDMI source (DVD player, game console, etc)?
    2) Does this happen a particular HDMI port or all 3?
    3) Are you powering the Firestick separately (with its own mini-usb cable connected to its own 5v / 1amp+ charger) or are you using the TV's USB port next to HDMI #3)?

Is it only acting up on hdmi, how about if you try an antenna for local channels?

I suspect a faulty cap on the mainboard.

Re: Samsung LN52A550 with HDMI issues

Happens on all three ports, power supply separate from tv for the firestick and the NVR for my security system which does the same thing. I don't game, so no gaming console to try, and I am rural enough that nearly impossible to get a 'local station'. if it is a bad cap, how do you find it on a SMD type board, and almost impossible to test. Local channel just static, and doesnt do it. I will try to capture some photos....thanks for all suggestions and help. I hope this further input of answers may help you help me!

They are fine nomoresonys, it's an issue with a cap on the mainboard.

Cap as opposed to HDMI chip?

First, try to update the software to the latest version (ver 1006.1 13.37 MB Sep 10. 2008), if it is not yet installed, then do a factory reset through the service menu.

Firestick fine on two other televisions. So how do you find a bad smd cap? And if I find one, how do i find the right value for replacement. I have tried several different places looking for schematics on the BN97-01985K main board, or even a parts list with the values. Ugh. Sigh.

It's unlikely you will find schematics or parts lists. There is a reason we ask for photos. https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=39740

Okay, I have the latest firmware already installed, but went through the process of checking down to the update level. Here are some pics after the factory reset was done.

the first one is showing air/cable input, the next I put in the firestick and went to HDMI 1, which shows the Fire TV logo, and then, before the profile screen can display, it goes to the chaos screen.

ok, if i recall its a mainboard issue, you can do some simple tests, you will need to take the back off.

first look it over for anything obvious, next, easy test, find the 8 pin/leg IC and heat it for a couple minutes with a hairdryer, then test the tv, don't wait for it to cool down, test it while its still hot.
