    Vizio V585-G1 Dead PSU

just wanted to drop this here in the interest of cataloging possible common failures of any tv. and to post about them even when im not asking for help, for it may help someone in the future when searching this model. didn't see this model of TV represented here so here is my report:

TV came in totally dead, no response. no standby LED.
    tested backlights were OK
inspecting power supply: see no 5vsb
see no voltages on cold side at all
see no output from secondary of transformers, but voltage on primary input side.
indicates DC voltage going to transformers, but not being switched, so no induction into secondary coils.
    visual inspection
found blown resistor. tests short in circuit but tests open out of circuit.
a transistor next to it shows all 3 legs shorted.

    R9111 blown open
    Q9100 all 3 legs shorted

    markings:
    AUK 39216
    SMK0965

i wonder... can i replace this transistor with another similar one from a scrap board i have lying around? or is it critical that i order the exact part?
hmm i guess i could use some help after all!

the power supply for this tv i found on ebay for only 10$ so i went ahead and ordered it. but just for my own education, i will keep this dead board and try to fix it.
    Don't fear the repair...

      Re: Vizio V585-G1 Dead PSU

update: U9103 (middle optocoupler) appears open on the LED side. should read a diode junction one way and open the other way, but reads open both ways.

also diode D9104 is open. i lifted a leg to confirm this.

so many bad components... definitely not worth repairing to save 10$

but worth it to learn maybe!

prolly find one on a scrap board, just try to make sure its close in specs. datasheet there: https://datasheetspdf.com/datasheet/SMK0965F.html

          Vizio E65-F0 really dead
          by Iain P
          Hi everybody!

I've got a Vizio E65-F0 smart tv that is good and dead. It shows no signs of life when I press the power button on the back. The power LED in the lower right corner doesn't light, there is no backlight and no picture.

So I took the back off and started poking around figuring one or more of the caps had dried out. My esr meter says all the caps on the power supply board and the mainboard are less than 1 ohm.

I decided to check the voltages coming off the power supply they are as follows:

          connector CN201
          pin 1 (18vsb1)...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
          by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

          Assuming...

          Dead Vizio D40u-D1
          by catnapped
Recently had my bedroom Vizio D40u-D1 apparently die while it wasn't being used. Noticed the power LED flashing, figuring maybe a software upgrade, but attempting to turn it on proved that wasn't the case. When powered on, the power LED will flash a bunch of times after about 2 minutes then turn off again. Definitely is no picture even with a flashlight on the screen. Had the opportunity to open it up over the weekend. Doesn't apper to be anything out of the ordinary visibly inside, nor any odd smells of escaped magic smoke. Readings from the connector in the corner of the power supply board...

Vizio D50u-D1 Dead: PSU or Main Board?
          by fharris1977
Hi. Anyone who has experience with these vizio sets, which pin on this connector is the standby, the 5V pin? Trying to rule out the PSU before ordering a mainboard. I'm getting 0 Volts on all pins on this connector. Trying to jump the standby and PS ON pins to see if the PSU is functioning. Thanks in advance.

Vizio D50u-D1 Dead Set No Standby
          by fharris1977
Hi. I got a Vizio with no power or standby, and won't turn on with remote or button. I checked the voltages on the connector and all read 0.00V or nearly 0(0.050 ON/OFF pin). None of the pins are labeled STB for standby although I do see some 5V pins. Other than the obvious standby led, which isn't coming on, is there a way to check for standby voltage on this PS. I'm trying to see if my problem is the PS or mainboard. Some Vizios I have fixed with no standby led me to think it was the PS but it turned out being the mainboard. Any experience with this set would be greatly appreciated.
